View Full Version : Tom, Jerry and Malaika

Well we have has Malaika for nearly two weeks now and although life is still a little hairy, things are getting better.
Malaika can be a little rough with Tom and Jerry and because of some weird genetic condition they are not the most agile of Cats. As i have said we have had to use a spray bottle to deter Malaika from lunging etc at the cats.
She is learning but still needs careful watching.
Jerry the more nervous cat hasn't much patience and hits first and asks questions later, he even attacked her for ragging his bed :shock:

Well thats looks to a be a step in the right direction have to remember Basenji's are hunting dogs......

I am sure they will settle down soon.....I have always found a few swipes from the cat and the pup learns to respect them.....
Malaika is tiny...how big she will be fully grown??

She will be about 16/17" when grown. They are rather cat like in behaviour.

I have never met one, but do love their little foxy faces....she is a very pretty girl....

One of our lecturers at college had a Basenji. He was a beautiful, obedient dog, but he did like to take things apart to see how they worked :D I am sure that your crew will all eventually get along well as Basenjis are more cat-like than other dogs.

Great pictures Shelley! Glad Tom and Malaika seem to be comfortable together. I was surprised that Tom looks quite a bit larger than Malaika atm and had to remind myself that she is just a pup.

What super pics! It find it quite amusing that Malaika is smaller than the cats . . . Tom has a very disgusted look on his face in the third pic which made me smile :lol:

:lol: The lecturer was very lucky, Basenjis are not known for obedience ;) .She is certainly a handful but lots of fun, and yes they do have a lot of cat like traits.
