I thought I would let you know that Mustard had to be PTS this morning. It appears he suffered a saddle thrombosis, which is very painful and nearly always fatal, so the vet helped him on his way.
The onlly consolation is that he was still in bed when we went out at 6 and Mike found him distressed at 6.40, he was gone by 7.30.
We are in total shock and he will be greatly missed, he was such a gentle boy.

I'm sorry. You fought very hard for him - as he did himself. He's no longer in pain - small consolation at this time I know.

Hugs to you both.

Thank you everyone.

I has been an awful day, because we had to take Scary Spice the quail in to be PTS this evening. Mike and I are in a daze. We can't believe Mustard is gone.

He came to us 7 years ago as a feral cat, who was in a small CPL cage with his brother from the age of 2 months to 10 months. He was never a cuddly cat, but went out during the day and always came in at night. When Triger arrived, minus a leg, he adopted him and we even saw him catching mice to give to Triger. After Triger was PTS, he spent a week calling for him.
Mustard then developed toxoplasmosis, and even then didn't give up, he coped with blindness, tense muscles and being handle and tableted daily- as Yola said, he was a fighter.
Tonight will be awful, feeding them all and not tapping his food bowl so he could find it, not waiting for him to decide when he wanted to be lifted into bed, not cleaning his mouth and waiting for him to cuddle down between us. The hardest bit, not waking in the night and checking he is OK with a quick pat.

So sorry to hear of your loss. However many cats fill our homes and hearts over time, each one leaves their own special space in our memory. Mustard has his own, very special place with you and always will. You can at least take comfort in knowing that you did so much for him. No one could have done more.

RIP brave wee boy......

Thank you, life seems very strange without Mustard. Pumpkin, his brother, has been doing a bit of calling, not too much but they spent less time together as Mustard went downhill, I still find it very heart breaking though.

All the vets and staff knew by lunchtime we had lost him, which was quite nice, because the vet, who dealt with him, felt it was something to let people know about, but very hard because everytime I've seen a new one they have said how sorry they are and that sets me off again.

I only just read your thread and I am so sorry for you - god bless you could nt have done more and Mustard had a very loving caring home and you should be so proud of that. He was a very lucky boy and you in turn to have had Mustard. He is out of any pain now and in time we heal though we never forget our beloved pets. R I P dear Mustard.
