Friend in Kent has been looking for a young adult cat for a while. She has been offered a Chinchilla. 20 months, owner no longer able to keep. Been a house cat - no known problems. We've looked up www onbreed and sounds like nice laid back cat breed.

Anyone know anything aout them?

I thought they were Disney-like rodents with long eye lashes!

My grandma had one when I was younger, she was very beautiful, as well as being fairly laid-back. Temperament wise he was very similar to the British shorthair, obviously with more coat care required.

They are a type of persian with a tipped white coat and green eyes. They are very pretty but some can be feisty lol!

You will have to make sure they are groomed regularly - every day until you can gauge the thickness, texture of the coat and then reassess.

the cat in the movie "cats and dogs" was supposed to be a chinchilla... i love how that have that "squashed" look to their faces :)

As Candice says, Chinchillas are a type of Persian although they don't usually have the extreme type of the other Persians. They can be laid back although they also tend to have a rather superior side to their nature!! They think they are so much better than all the others in the Persian section and with the stunning tipped coat, gorgeous green eyes lined with 'eye-liner' and pink nose also edged with what looks like black eye-liner.

They do need daily grooming as all the Persians do but if this has been maintained by the previous owners there shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks folks. The cat has been very well looked after and loved. The elderly owner has had unexpected health problems since not long after she got the cat and is now moving into 'very sheltered housing' where no pets are allowed. Her neighbour is friendly with my friend so that's how she found out about the cat.

She was going to visit today and will call me today/tomorrow and update. Elderly lady is really upset.

Thanks for the pic Kay - looks a stunner.

How great it would be if your friend can take care of the cat. And reassuring for the elderly person.

Got email from friend - Brenda. She has had a visit and is going to take cat.

He is called Tristram and is 22 months old. Owner is moving end of next month so Brenda is going to visit couple of times a week for 3 or 4 weeks then bring him home. The housing the lady is moving to is around 5 miles away so Brenda has agreed that ladys daughter can bring her for visits now and again. Great result!

and . . .

here is a pic she took of him today - I am in love

Looks like he is pretty laid back. Brenda said he was quite happy to be picked up and cuddled. His coat is very thick but not too long. Apparently he will lie on your knee and get brushed for hours!

Quick update. Tristram will be moving house on 26th March. He has a floor to ceiling climbing frame which he loves so that is coming too along with three beds, toys, dishes food etc. and his grooming kit.

Sounds like going from one spoiled boy home to another.

Brenda was back to see him tonight and she was so made up he was rubbing her leg and jumped up on her knee for a snooze.

Bet your friend can't wait! Sounds as if they are getting along well. He's a young boy and I am sure will settle well. I do hope that the elderly person is pleased with the solution, although it must be distressing for her too.
