I have a 6 year old Bengal called Leo, he's adorable and so loving but sprays in the house and need advice from anyone who may have experienced the same situation.

He first started around three years ago when he had free roam of the whole house, when I found out he was doing this I confined him to his own area to calm him down - this worked for a while and he used the litter tray but he slowly stopped using the litter all together and decided to use a tiled floor which was also managable, this has now moved into a more serious problem to urinatining on the furniture, up the windows and off the back of the sofa (half way up the wall?) Etc

I have 4 cats in total all of which get along fine, during the day the cats have the run of a large conservatory and outside pen (attached to the conservatory) to roam, litter trays are availible but Leo does not use them anymore, he has his own purpose built tray lined with paper but as already stated refuses to use this anymore.

Its got to the point where I cant let him in the house unsupervised and this is unfair on him and the rest of the cats.
HELP

I had a similar problem with my cat Leo, he is 14 and had a bout of cystitis, then started spraying, I used neat white vinegar everwhere he sprayed and that stopped him!

Ive had him to the vets several times just to check his health out, hes there again tomorrow. I'll be buying the vinegar - willing to try anything

Thanks

He is neutered, isn't he? I'd suspect stress, but if it has been going on for so long, I wonder if there's an underlying health problem. Hopefully the vet will be helpful tomorrow. Have you considered trying Feliway? That often calms stressy cats... do let us know what happwens tomorrow; this is so distressing.

Well he’s been to the vets and has been given a clean bill of health so this now leads me to try and find a behavior specialist, if anyone knows of one in the Derbyshire area pls let me know

I love this cat soooo much but its ruining our lives and destroying our home plus the fact its not fair on Leo he deserves to be happy

Did your vet not give you any suggestions regarding Leo's behaviour?:?

It's good that it's not his health. While you're looking for a specialist, why not try the Feliway, and possibly Bach's Rescue Remedy ... in his water and and rub a little bit on his ears. Can't hurt, might help.

We're still having fits and starts with Dylan's spraying, maybe with Leo someone's bringing in a smell on their shoes he doesn't like?

Ide tried the felliway before and whilst it worked in the short term, the effects soon wore off, the vet did suggest looking for behavior help - I asked her if she knew of anyone and she also searched on the internet but came up with nothing for Derbyshire.
The vet has suggested that it could be my daughter which has caused him to start spraying, not that she chases or worries him but more of the fact that she is now my baby and not him! My daughter is now three, and this has been going on for around the same length of time, however I always make sure that past her bed time Leo has my full attention, obviously its not enough.

Has your vet suggested Zylkene? It's a food supplement which helps aleviate stress. Dont think you have to buy it from the vet, think you can get it online.

I am sorry to hear of your problem, I used to have an un neutered male cat come into my house via the cat flap and we always knew by the awful smell where he had sprayed. I have no experience personally of this but it does sound like his nose is a bit out of joint from what you say. Its a difficult situation and apart from extra fuss its hard to know what to suggest. You could also try various sprays you can buy from d i y stores to stop cats urinating - I am not sure if its orange or lemon essential oil that is supposed to stop them too. Good luck. Jan x

Almost any citrus scent is supposed to be unpleasant to cats... never needed it myself, but might be worth a try.

I tried it with Eva and it didnt have much effect but thats probably because her peoblem turned out to be more serious than just stress.
Others have used it with success though, gotta be worth a shot.

On Saturday we stripped the room, pen and conservatory he lives in and cleaned it from top to bottom, Leo seemed very happy and impressed - I sprayed the walls down with white vinegar as suggested above but when I came home tonight he had wet on the cane sofa - before i could say a word he had bolted underneath the sofa as he knew what he had done.

This is no longer fair on the other 3 cats that are perfect on the cleanliness front, nor is it fair that this has allowed to completley take over our day to day activities, and also worry about what he’s doing when out of the house, I even try to rush home because of the mess that I might face

All my cats are rescues and strongly believe in the 'for life' policy but this has beat me and I’m inclined to try and re-home him, I’m in bits just writing this post.

I heard this as well, think it works.
