I found this poem on the internet and wanted to share it with you all (thought it was good and sums up how older rescue cats must feel)

REJECTION!

Rescued kittens, full of fun,
The people take their pick
And leave behind the older one.
She's lonely, so heartsick.

She's 9 years old, and every day
The people pass her by.
Don't want an older cat, they say,
Don't even want to try.

We want a kitten we can “train”
Not one set in her ways.
So in the shelter she'll remain
For many lonely days.

Pretty cats with fluffy fur
May get that second chance.
But ordinary mogs like her
Don't even rate a glance.

She feels her heart's about to break,
A picture of dejection.
And many times she'll have to take
This thoughtless, sad rejection.

She'd give out all the love she could,
You see it in her eyes.
If cats could cry real tears, she would,
And she can't verbalize.

She cannot speak to those that come
To choose; she can't appeal.
Oh, why did God make animals dumb
So they can't say how they feel?

 That made me cry, but I am feeling particularly sensitive.
A lovely poem but very sad.

Such a sweet yet sad poem...Thank you for sharing it with us. If only more people knew that the older cats are just as wonderful as the younger ones :smt049

When we are ready to adopt cats again in several years...those are the type of cats we want to adopt...the older ones :) The ones that people pass by. We would be more then happy to adopt them! We plan on doing that someday :-D

The poem must have summed up how Beauty was feeling, that was what was happening with her, people were just walking past her because of her age :(

At least her last year and 3 months she was happy.

That had me tearing up too; beautiful and so sad. When the time comes it will definitely be an older rescue cat for me.

Love the poem, but I would make just one slight alteration to a line:

"Oh, why did God make humans dumb?"

We were offered the chance to cancel our reservation on Boodle when it was found that she was of indeterminate sex - the very thought makes me want to weep (don't believe men who say they don't cry). Kittens are wonderful, but so are older cats, disabled cats, intersex cats etc. :D
