Hi everyone, I'm an old member, but havn't logged in here for some time .

My 18 year old cat Rosie is on Vitalda for Hyperthyroidism, she's also on meds for kidney failure. For over a year she'd take her pill cut in half and put in cheese spread.

She refuses to do that now, and is too frail to have it put down her throat,as she puts up an awful fight .

I know I shouldn't do it, but I've had to resort to crushing it and sprinkling it on a blob of thickish cream,

it's the only way she'll take it.

Any other suggestions ? This way of giving her the Vitalda isn't really ideal.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried wrapping her pill in ham, that usually works with my cat....

Thanks Mags, I'll have a go, unfortunately she's learnt how to spit the pill out of her mouth when I put it in cheese spread, or fish paste, so I'm wondering if wrapping it in ham would work.

I had a cat with the same thyroid problem and I used to wrap the tablet in a piece of ham. It worked quite well, providing I stuck it to the meat with a bit of something else so that it didn't fall out. It was trial and error really but it usually worked. :D

Hi Lynda - good luck with the pill. I have no knowledge of that particular med. Is it water soluble?

Hi, I have 4 cats on vidalta and I have to admit I just pop the pills down their throats, vidalta really shouldn't be cut or crushed. One of my cats is on steriods and because of his condition doing this isn't really possible, so I have invested in a pill giver and once I got the knack have found it very useful, and it saves you fingers.:D

Linda, my cat has recently been diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism as well. I can't pill him so he has the tablets pushed into a piece of chicken. You can buy chicken pieces on our local market and it's ideal for pushing tablets into. I usualy but £2.00 worth and freeze half

Primula cheese is also another good one to try to get tablets down with.

When we used to pill Beauty we used to crush the tablet and mix it with tuna :D

This has been useful for me as well, for I've never thought of pushing a tablet into a piece of chicken. What a good idea.

Hello Lynda ! :D

If your Cat likes Cheese, a tablet can be pushed into that as well.
