Our Spice, who has lots wrong with her- hyperthyroid, hypertensive, arthritic and in the initial stages of CRF has a full MOT, and the results are pretty good considering.
Her blood pressure is down to between 130- 140, she was 230 previously.
Her thyroid levels are with in the normal range.
Her urea and creatinine levels in her blood test have hardly changed.
Her protein/ creatinine ratio in her urine is still below 0.5 so she doesn't need to go onto fortekor yet,
and she is responding well to the acupuncture.
Tonight I am a happy woman.:D and she's 18 and a half!

Thanks everybody, I am so delighted about this and had even more good news today. Misty, who is in CRF, had her urine sent off for a protein/ creatinine ratio to be taken..... and she is still normal too. I am even more happy about this, because her bloods were a good bit worse from the previous sample taken and I was convinced that she would deteriorate more quickly, particulary because she is 20 and half.

I am now waiting for Smudge's results to find out how she is fairing.
I think I have it in my head that they won't have long because Chokki died 6 months after we had her diagnosed, of course we don't know how long she had been struggling before she came to us, but her bloods were no worse than Spice's at diagnosis. The vets did not do the urine test at that time, but she was given a renal diet and fortekor as soon as we found out she was ill. I must ask the vet why they don't put the cats onto fortekor until the protien/ creatinine ratio is above 0.5 ( i think), I wonder if it doesn't help until this stage? Anybody Know?

Good news again, Smudge is in the normal range too, and she's 17 and half, so for the moment I'm a happy woman.
Taking Samson in next to see whether there is any fluid in his abdomen, unfortunately a lump has appeared on his side and not gone away. He's happy and eating, so will just have to be content that he is well, for the time being.
