There's been some discussion as to whether cats who chatter at birds are also generally more vocal. So, let's have an informal survey and see what the results are.

My cat:

Chatters at birds and is quite vocal
Never chatters but is talkative
Chatters but not especially talkative
Doesn't chatter and not very vocal

That was supposed to be a poll, but I obviously did something wrong! Leia doesn't chatter and isn't very vocal; Sultan and Dandy were chatterers and vocal. So far, 7 chatterers and talkers, one neither.

We haven't counted the "silent miaow" - which is definitely a form of communication, but obviously, silent. Merlin was a master of this sort of "talking".

Good point! Leia is very good at the silent miaow also.

Chatters and vocal - Jennie used to be
Non chatter but vocal - Tucker, Colin, Princess, Kiara
Chatters, not vocal - Anakin
Neither - Tabs and Vitaani, although a little vocal at certain times (feeding, fuss e.t.c) but not in comparison to the others who are always vocal. Same for Anakin really.

I'd say the vocal chatterers are more common from this random sample. Little Onyx turned out to be very vocal but as she was outside I never got to know if she chattered.

Another thought: Leia's a non-chatterer, but she lashes her tail furiously when bird-watching. Anyone else notice that?

Oh yes ........... Kizzy's tail is very demonstrative! Pip thinks it is always an invitation to play ................!

   Yep they certainly do a lot of tail swishing, and that is something that they both do while watching the birds, it is comical when they are sat there together next to each other and their tails and heads are swishing and turning at the same time:lol:
