Abdominal Aoritic Aneurysm

Okay following on from Dad's CAT scan the other day it appears he has an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm which is the main artery, the Doctor today said the artery should be 2cm's in diameter Dad's has in effect ballooned and is measuring in at 8.2cm....so we are under investigation. :roll: :roll: ...seems we will be hearing lots of that in the near future.
There will be a meeting about him Monday and a consulation with the team dealing with his stomach cancer....then a desicion made which it appears according to the vascular suregon we saw today means an operation to repair it, as it is "at risk" of rupturing/bursting. Which we don't want but the consultaion between the "cancer docs" and the "vascular docs" will decide the outcome.

Its all go this end I tell you.:shock:

He is fine in himself Elaine which is odd...considering all going on but he is happy with the impression that the Doctors are doing their best which I am surethey are no complaints at all we are bieng fasttracked...and Nula the "co ordinator of (posh name I can't recall) stomach cancer came to the appointment today. She is smoothing everything and making it very easy talking to variopus departments and sorting appointments to suit. :D she is a god send. Explaining everything, we see the oncologist Mr Richardson on the 30th after the next round of "biopsy's the week before"

But I have today brought a diary which we will update following every appointment and to write questions we want answers to this will be Dad's bible...in effect as it could be Diane/Micky/me taking him to appointments this way we all know whats happened and what questions we want answered and whats going on and said "timeline wise" and who we have seen/when/whats said/etc....what do you think? like a logbook for Dad's.

Very sorry to read about your Dad, Kazz. I am pleased though that he and you all think that he is getting good treatment and I think the "log book" is a excellent idea - you ought to sell the idea to the NHS. Very practical and helpful for all your family.

Every good wish being sent to your Dad, Kazz ....... he is lucky to have such a very supportive family looking out for him. The idea of a log book is an excellent idea as it's so, so easy to overlook things during stressful circumstances.

Yeah thats pretty much the general census here too Yola they are what the Dr called silent killers,:? because they go un-noticed and this one could have too - see a silver linning :-D - but for the CAT scan for the cancer this could have gone unnoticed but they have found the AAA ;)
(Abdominal Aortic Aneurism) as it will be called from now on ;) and can treat it hopefuly easily. Then onto the next skirmish.

Sorry about the AAA, but it does sound as if all the specialists are coordinating their efforts to get your Dad well; that log book is a very practical idea! You all are in my thoughts and prayers, Kazz.

Thanks both, I may mention the diary idea next time we go I just thought it was obvious given as Mags said its stressful and with so much information being downloaded to you its easy to miss something (as 20% of your attention is on the Dr and 40% on Mom 40% on Dad.:roll: And as time goes on I think it will help remind us what questions we want to ask... and this way we have a written record of when things happened and what medication/treatment was advised and when and by whom? In fact scrub the may I WILL mention it next time I go in. I juts thought it was obvious.

P.S. Today met a lady from the USA and she was amazed this level of treatment was available at no cost....:? ...she was there with a friend she was over visiting somehting I had not considered but I THINK its times like these you realise how the NHS for all its faults comes into its own. And surpasses with ease the expectations of people like us. Making it easier.

Sorry to read your Dad has yet another problem to contend with. I hope all goes well for him. He is going to spend the next while being surrounded by specialist and nurses etc. and has a long road ahead. At least you all know what you are dealing with now.

The log book is a great idea. So often the little questions which are very important are the ones it is easy to forget. This way then, as you said, you will have a record to refer to.
