His eye was closed slightly yesyerday, so bathed it with warm water, this morning is very mucky and the side of his face is swollen, bathed it again and he could open it...
Either its an absess under a tooth, a bite from something, or he has had a swipe from another cat....
Taking to the vets first thing in the morning...It does not seem to be bothering him at all...........

That was my first thought Mags, the swelling is over one side of his face, the eye does not seem to be damaged at all...But its definitely an infection..Hopfully the vet can tell me what from...

Poor little love. For his own good he'll need to stay indoors though I suppose. I hope the vet can ease the swelling . . .

Merlin has a huge abscess, the vet thinks he has been bitten by a weasel or similar.....he is now on Abs for the next 10 days, he was such a good boy at the vets did not utter a sound and let her examine him...,

I have seen a couple Mags, but all the cats go over to the small wooded copse opposite the house...

No she did not lance it Liz, she picked a scab off and it oozed puss, but not a lot, so will have to keep an eye on it incase it does start to weep..

We see a few Cats a year with cheek absesses Moli, usually from fights, they always explode when we have them in for boarding! Im sure if its burst he will feel better already.

The vets say it may burst, of the AB's may just dry it up....

I cannot quite understand how he got it, notice he also has a scratch on his ear, Merlin is not a fighter, normally he will run away from fights....He is a big wimp!!!

Glad he's better this morning! That is so funny about Meisha ...he's not the most valiant of cats; cannot imagine how the weasel got close enough to bite him!

I wondered that too Eileen, but the vet says they will corner a cat, and as Merlin is such a numpty can quite imagine its what happened....

Poor Merlin, he is having quite a time of it just now. Glad to hear the swelling is reducing.

I too have heard weasels can corner cats, poor boy!
