This appeared in the border - was supposed to be red like the rest I planted. Thought it was quite unusual. Hope it comes back next year.

Lovely, but they're not uncommon here. It may not come true from seed but why not save some (if they ripen before frost) and plant next year? Whatever color comes up is sure to be beautiful; I do like hollyhocks. Thanks for sharing!

Edited: they're biennials, won't bloom from seed till '11

Never thought about seed. The others are well past so I was quite surprised this has flowered. I'd never seen a black one before. Hopefully I'll get some seed from it then.

That's lovely :D I planted my first hollyhock this year, but a boring old red lol.
