View Full Version : Update on OH's heart

K has his own cardiologist now and before surgery they have decided to go into his artery with a catheter and look at his heart from the inside to see how bad the annuerysm is.
Their concern is that if it goes down too low to where the main arteries connect to the brain (and one of them is dead from a past blood clot), they will not only have to arrest his heart during the surgery but but cut off the arteries to the brain for fifteen minutes as well.
He goes in on Friday. The procedure itself isn't a big deal but the results are gonna tell us exactly how much more technical his surgery is going to be.
Oh and also they are not only planning to replace his aortic valve with a mechanical one but also the ascending aorta.

That does sound scary, Tink. But his cardiologist sounds as if he knows his job and is taking all precautions for a safe and successful operation. I know you can't help but worry, but thank God they found out in time while something can be done. You both will be in my thoughts Friday...(((hugs)))

From my limited knowledge of heart disease that sounds major. But I'm sure your surgeons are expert at balancing risk vs result and they will be taking every precaution to ensure your boyfriend comes out of this stronger and healthier.

I will be thinking of you both on Friday. Hugs.

Thanks, all.
K is home and feeling well.
As far as the point of this test being to find out how extensive surgery is going to be, the results were inconclusive:(
However, they did find he has other less serious annuerysms in his other arteries and they believe he has had a congenital defect all his life causing his arteries to not have normal elasticity.
Appt. with the surgeon the 28th to discuss results more and setup surgery date and talk more into detail about all that will transpire.
Thank you for all your good thoughts.

Oh dear, wish the results could have been a little more conclusive; however it's good he's feeling OK. Do let us know the results of the visit on the 28th; still sending healing and calming vibes to you both.

Hope the surgeon is able to do something positive for him. Good that it has been found now and they will be able to address the issue.

Thinking of you both.
