(With apologies to Dinahsmum as I stole her "Kompanion"! This also has a bit of Dr Who screen test feeling to it.)

First priority obviously is to find a nice cat who will not disturb Kizzy, who is settling nicely. She is such a playful little cat and wears me out before she is quite finished playing. So a friend would be the best plan for her. Ideally, as others have suggested a nice young lad 4 - 6 months old who won't dominate her.

OH and I went up to our local RSPCA centre this afternoon by appointment to have a look at the cats they currently have in. There were no ideal candidates, but I have to say I was astounded by the size of some of the cats they did have in  They all seemed friendly and there were lots of meows and chirrups and only one growl! But they were either already reserved or not suitable for rehoming with other cats or were female. There was only one little tabby that I would have considered but she is a girl. Staff at the centre were very pleasant and kind. :D

I have phoned another independent rescue this afternoon, but they do house checks before you're even allowed to visit! So we will see what comes of that.

I'll keep you posted.

Of course, if you know of a likely candidate ............... please let me know!

Just an update - I have tried the Blue Cross website today and there are no suitable cats (young male) in the Southampton or Northiam areas. I still have heard nothing from the independent cat rescue I phoned last week.

dandysmom

That's so strange; some shelters are overflowing, yet you can't find a little boy ....hang in there, the right cat will come along!

Thought this might make you laugh - I had showed OH the pictures of Milo yesterday and I think he was very impressed because later last evening he was showing me the Southern British Shorthair website and available kittens! Not that many atm, but absolutely adorable at £450 per kitten!!! Looked at their rehoming section too, but it seems all females withdrawn from breeding - one only 18 months old

I'd not considered that avenue - a pedigree rehome.

dinahsmum
12-05-2009, 03:55 PM
I meant to suggest that to you Angie, in response to the many posts here for ragdolls. Maybe a similar ages female is not the best match for Kizzie though?

Breaking News:

When my friend of the very longest time came to see me a couple of weeks ago, we got around to talking about a Kompanion for Kizzy. I floated the idea that I would rather love a little ginger boy kitten, short haired. :smt049 She said that she would keep an eye out. Well, she phoned me today and said that a friend's cat has had four kittens and two are gingers - was I still interested? Yes, if it's a boy and short haired. Any chance of photos - the little chap (if there is one) is only a week old atm. YES YES YES! Mother cat is tabby and white and pretty, father unknown. Will I trust her judgement? Certainly! They come from Oxford, so are sure to be well educated!

More when I hear with the possible photo.

No news from the local Cp??? surely they are overun every branch normaly is this time of year

angieh
07-07-2009, 08:43 PM
I am afraid to say that our local CP has a poor reputation. Other CP branches in the area at least have working websites - the local one has nothing. They also have a bad reputation with the vet practice I use.

It's not just local CP I have to say. I was looking at District Council information just a couple of days ago. Again other local areas had either the information or links to the info I needed - Chichester - nothing. I am very much afraid that they don't like to share around here ......... it is very annoying.

(perhaps I should qualify a bit - it seems they don't like rehoming cats!)

No - we're not that far. Sixty-odd miles I think. Angie, have a look at www.readinganddistrictcats.org (http://www.readinganddistrictcats.org) - if any little fluff catches your eye let me know. I will vouch for you with our co-ordinator so I'm sure there will be no problem if you do find that kitty that fits the KK bill :D

angieh

Well, names now .............. my friend thought Morse because he comes from Oxford, but I don't like that and OH hates Morse! Then I thought Lewis would be fine, but I am thinking about Dexter atm or Dexy for short. What do you think?

Ginger????
Don't do it! :-D

Dexter - isn't that some sort of serial killer TV thing? Nice name though but what if he grows up left-handed?
Lewis (Lewisssss) - I like that. I like the Kevin Whatley character too, so double plus. Human surnames seem to fit male cats pretty well - in my mind anyway

(He's rather sweet, isn't he?)

angieh
10-07-2009, 01:40 PM
You're right about the Dexter serial killer TV show - I did see that this morning in the Sky mag and have had some second thoughts. My thinking behind Dexter is of course Colin Dexter who is a serial author! I'm warming more towards Lewis today ..... or Louie?

angieh
10-07-2009, 01:41 PM
.... what about Ruskin??????????

dinahsmum
10-07-2009, 01:58 PM
Very learned!

Is Ruskin a red reference?
I looked at lots of them - Rufus, Rory etc etc

Lewis, Louis, Louey, Huey, Dewy .... like em all.
Back to TS Elliot for you and study the naming of cats. :)

10-07-2009, 08:19 PM
OK - OH has been looking up red-related names and we were trawling through lists of names that popped up over supper and, looking at that little kitty with his little round tum-tum, I just thought Grubb! (bit of the opposite to Ruskin - I was thinking of the the college rather than a red reference.)

dandysmom
10-07-2009, 08:28 PM
C.S. Lewis was a Cambridge man ...........

angieh
10-07-2009, 08:31 PM
Indeed he was, but Colin Dexter's series about the grumpy Chief Inspector Morse were all based around Oxford. His sidekick was Lewis. Not sure what his forename was. This litter is in the Oxford area.

dandysmom

angieh
10-07-2009, 08:41 PM
I didn't even think about that CM - might be difficult with MIL. My friend will be bringing kitty with her next time she comes down to see her mum who lives not far away from me, so I'd not thought about going to see him. I shall ask for more photos though. I have printed the one I posted of him and it is on my board in the kitchen.

dinahsmum
11-07-2009, 09:25 AM
Lewis's first name is Robbie - which is also a nice name for a boy cat. However, it's nice to get away from every animal having the 'ee' sound at the end of their name, which is amazingly common.
If you wouldn't mind them both beginning with the 'k' sound, you could adopt the lovely name Kazz always puts forward, which is Kipling.
I must be a simple soul, or easily satisfied, because I still like the sound of Lewisss.

I'll post this but then go looking for the thread with all the 'red' names on it, where people kindly researched names for my (then) future red boy. I'll edit and add the link if I'm successful

There you go (http://www.catsey.com/showthread.php?t=11652&highlight=Names) - that didn't take long at all

Update. I spoke to kitten's owner this evening and will be going to pick him up some time between 12th August and 21st August - date to be confirmed. Nice young lady, doing her PhD. She didn't want anything for him and said that mother cat will be spayed. It was an "accident", but she has obviously enjoyed having the kittens enormously.
