As a follow on from the mystery plant thread. These are pics of the daffs I have left in flower.

I'd love to know what variety people think thay may be.

1) This looks like a whirlygig at the back, all the petals are crinkly and it is just showing a little bit darker yellow right in the middle.

2) This one is quite petite - about 10" high - the centre is much more orange than it looks here.

3) Pure white outer petals and in the distinctive 3 to the back/3 to the front pattern. The centre is quite orange.

4) At first glance very similar to the above but the centre is wider and the orange is much darker tipped.

5) Again similar to no 3 but the outer petals are a buttery cream colour.

6) What I always think of when we talk about daffodils

7) Pale lemon with only the edge of the trumpet having an orangy hue.

8) Three pics of the one we were unsure about last night

9) Clean white with large yellow trumpet

10) Cream petals and large open orangey trumpet

11) Almost pure white, just that slight lemoney middle.

12) Cream petals and orange shaded trumpet

13) Uniform pale creamy yellow

Lovely clear pictures CM! I am glad that you've got a pretty vase of daffs indoors as a result of your efforts.

I will try and have a stab at identifying them later ......

Thank you - I've been browsing through bulb catalogues etc and have a few ideas.

Most of these daffs were in the garden long before I came here so I really have no idea of the variety.

There is also a lovely cream double but it is well over - so next year!

Another possible candidate for #8, last night's mystery... Magellan.

Number 4 looks like the Poet's Daffodil...

I thought either pheasant eye or Actaea, but that one looks very like it too. Pheasant eye petals look a wee bit too loose.

I had no idea there were so many similar varieties. Sometimes struggle to see the difference by photo.

Not seen anything yet like no 1.

Number 11 might be Mt. Hood ....

It is really hard distinguishing them, isn't it? And sometimes two of them in the garden next to one another aren't exactly the same....

The white ones vary greatly in size yet they are mainly together in 4 or 5 clumps,

Could be the time of day it was taken, the amount of sunlight, and how the camera's filter (or whatever it's called) processes color. Guess we really need to see it in situ, but it's fun hunting, isn't it?
