Just thought you may like to know that vetuk has 10% off this water fountain atm.

I am thinking about getting one for Kizzy.

Anyone who has knowledge of this particular brand - I'd be grateful for your reviews - thanks!

I had a similar one which was good. The design I'd say steer clear of is the one with a half-globe which the water pours down . . . awkward to use and a pig to clean!!

They're all a bit more fiddly than washing a water bowl - which I have now returned to without any problems :D

I'll second that - I've now thrown mine out and bought a different style.

I have a Cat-it water fountain, the half globe thing that Yola refers to:lol: . I like it but agree that it is fiddly and a pain to clean. But the cats like it.

I looked at the one you mention Angie but prefer the look of the fresh flow water fountains.

That is the one I have now - Alfie does not use it as much, I think he finds it difficult to use as it is quite a distance from the front to the flow.

I was looking at the one Angieh is thinking about and would be interested if anyone uses that. ALfie likes to drink from the tap and I thought that was similar.

I was reading the reviews for the water fountains on the vetuk site - there is a "platinum" model, very similar but the motor is much quieter. More expensive of course. The good thing I thought about this particular make is that spare parts are available.

It's interesting that some people have gone back to water bowls after trying the fountains. I have a nice stainless steel bowl (have had it for ages) it has a rubber ring around the base so it doesn't slip around. I just wondered if I was being a neglectful mummy not trying the fountain! Merlin only learned too late to save him from bouts of cystitis that drinking water is a very good thing, so I wondered if the fountain would encourage Kizzy to drink. Although I do have to say she seems very good at that atm.

The one I have is quite noisy - it might be worth a bit more for a quieter motor, I would in the future.

We bought our first fountain for ALfie when he was about a year old. Prior to that I never noticed him drinking much. He loved taking a drink from dripping or slightly running tap so bought him the fountain. I was amazed at how often it needed topping up so he obviously drinks a lot more that we realised or thought he would. It is certainly IMO a great thing for them.

I've gone back to the water bowl as well (I have the globe thing as well), simply because I got really fed up with having to buy filters every few weeks! And there was nowhere in Telford that sold them so I had to drive halfway to Wolverhampton every time I needed new ones.

I can't try one as the old house I live in doesn't have enough electrical outlets in the kitchen... :(

a water fountain is something i have thought of in the last few weeks... didn't really know much about them until Tinky was in hospital and i saw that they had one there for their clinic cats... (they had 3 big beautiful cats.. Bruce, Toby and I can't remember the others name at the moment..) anyway...Tinky and George love to drink from the bathroom tap... George learnt it from Tinky and im sure that Harri will pick it up from Geoge at some stage... so i thought a fountain might be a good way for them to have "running"water without me having to be there to turn on the tap all the time.. the one i've been looking at is the "cat-it"and allegedly they are the most popular here... but from what ive just read here they might not be so good...given that i dont give my cats anything to drink apart from water it's important that whichever one i get is effective..
i think id probably have to get an electrician to come and put in a power point at ground level in the laundry so i'd have power for it... dont fancy it being up on the laundry bench...

jo - I've had two (or maybe 3?) Cat-its in the 3 years I've had my boys. They don't last. The pump fails.
I've now got a Drinkwell, which appears better. The pump can be replaced if necessary and the whole thing fels more robust and easy to clean. You can get an extra reservoir should you want to ensure very large supply. The water actually falls from a lip, rather than runs down a slope. I prefer it

Thats a shame, I have had 2 cat-its in the last 5 years, first one packed in last year, and yes it was the pump but I have now discovered a knack of regularly cleaning the pump so that it doesnt clog up as much as the last one did. I invested in a bottle brush.;)

My Tribe have both a water bowl, situated in the bath as BeWilbured likes to try & move them to make the water ripple :? , and a water fountain in the kitchen which they all use.
I had the Cat-it one first but as previously mentioned the pump packed up after 18 months & it was really hard to clean (thought that was just me being dippy! ) now have the drinkwell one but the only time I find them noisy is if they are getting low on water??! I only switch mine on for a few hours a day (see post in cystitis or constipation thread) and I highly recommend them!!! :-D

That's very useful info MCL and great news that Castaways Animal Rescue gets a commission on spends.

I know lots of Catsey peeps order stuff online, so that's well worth knowing.

Thanks Angie!!

Pass the link on to anyone who you think it maybe able to help!! With this credit crunch malarkey we are getting inundated with pregnant mothers, un-neutered toms and poorly pussies which their previous 'owners' have decided to move out and just abandon.... so any extra pennies are soooooooooooooooo gratefully recieved!!! :-D

Thanks again!!!
