Leia - no. She will eat a few small fresh leaves, but does not react to dried catnip. And she doesn't get silly when she eats the leaves.

No for my cats ,

Is it true that catnip doesn't work on kittens?

Eva, yes. She will lick at a catnip toy for hours then claims the toy as her own and will carry it around in the mouth all evening.

Bernie, yes, he will roll and rub on the catnip or catnip toy then bite and bunny kick at it, flick it in the air and chase it.

hi thanks for the replys so far!!

according to my research kittens under 6 months dont react to cat nip, supposedly because somehow the catnip simulates a ohenomone reaction and because the kittens are not sexually mature yet they would not pick it up. i also think there is a genetic link but i cant get enough info and experients to prove that

Would indicating the breeds of our cats help any, genetic-wise? Leia is a moggy,

Interesting that's what I had read.
I might try catnip on my kittens again now they are over 6 months.

I'd read that somewhere before but dont remember it giving an explanation as to why and in all honesty, I really dont remember my cats being interested in catnip as kittens.

Twitch - yes, very much so. She chews at her toy and rubs herself along it. With loose catnip - had a spillage while trying to re-fill the toy she went crazy and started sniffing at it, then licking at it, before going quite mad and rolling in the stuff before darting off around the house!
Sid - I don't know, I've never tried it with him! I shall get some toys and see what happens.
