I went to see the school nurse today as Ashleigh was due for her 3rd HPV vaccine. I showed the nurses the video footage of her coughing and gagging and they were quite shocked. I've been back to the Dr with Ashleigh too. (3rd time in 2 weeks) and I showed her the video, she didn't say much. She also now has pain in her ribs & her back, and did a poo today which was black :? . We got home from the Drs and she had a coughing fit & was sick.

She is now sleeping as her vaccine has knoecked her about, but I am thinking about taking her to A&E this afternoon as my Drs are obviously a waste of space. they ahve referred me to a paediatric specialist but said you may have to wait a month....well that's useful! She's ill now, not in a month!

I have a migraine coming on myself & feel exhausted with all the recent dramas

Off you go to A&E Smudgley
I get so annoyed hearing these reports of poor health care.
Get off now, when it should be quiet - will your other daughter (eek, can't remember her name) be OK getting home from school by herself? If so, just go - this is a good time, before anyone important goes home at 5

Lucy, yes she gets herself home every day ;)

I'm sick to death of feeling frustrated by these professional people who don't seem very caring!

I have already had a dispute at my drs over them not diagnosing Lucys neck problem.

I have today started the process of registering at another practice.

I want Ashleigh to have a little sleep now before I take her as she was up a lot last night coughing.

I have been trawling the internet looking for breathing difficulties, coughing fits, black faeces.... and I really don't feel it should be my job to do this.

You end up thinking you have all kinds of weird diseases.

Doctors are a waste of time...I would take her to A & E Smudgley, she sounds as if she need help now, not in a few weeks time....!

Kelly - not sure if it's your bag, but have you tried alternative therapies? I've had various 'things' which have been difficult to diagnose as the symptoms have either been conflicting or not evident when they needed to be. I found a fantastic herbalist (a proper medical herbalist who trained as long as a standard medical practitioner) and she has really sorted me out! She's my first port of call now before even the doctor's surgery.

However I agree that for your own peace of mind and to keep the current ball rolling you need to stand on your own GP and/or local health authority to get them to take notice.

It sounds like poor Ashleigh is really an unwell young lady and I hope someone is able to shed some light on this for you very soon.

I hope Ashleigh will get the attention she needs from another doctor, Smudgley...

I used to think homeopathy was a big con, (because I'd never tried it) however having used it as alternative veterinary medicines for many things I am now quite a fan, however on this occasion I think she really needs a medical diagnosis.

Off to hospital when John gets home in an hour.

Poor Ashleigh, and poor you, because we all know how a hacking cough can grate on even the most patient of nerves. I hope the poor lass gets the treatment she needs. Sometimes I wonder if doctors get their licences out of lucky bags!!

Poor girl, I hope the hospital comes up with an answer as to what is wrong and some meds to help ease it for her.

I hope that they sort your daughter out straight away for you and your daughter it all sounds very distressing and not very nice at all, doctors seem to be just a waste of space most of the times these days, it makes me made:evil:

Kelly, you're doing right. Don't like the sound of that black poo :(. this cough should have cleared by now and ab's haven't had an effect and could be causing more symptoms, ie, thrush. You know your kid, don't be fobbed off and yes, change your doctors, sounds like the practice is over subscribed and under staffed/ overwhelmed.

Sorry to hear your daughter is poorly Smudgley - do hope you can get some answers or at least get her some relief from A&E.

I hope A&E manage to get to the bottom of what is wrong. It sounds as if you've been getting rubbish healthcare support, but at least you're being proactive and changing your GP.

Poor wee soul sounds quite miserable.

We're back!

I should have took DMs advice & gone at lunchtime when it was probably a lot quiter

2 and a half hour wait, but who cares, we saw a lovely Doctor. A caring, sympathetic & listening young man. He chatted & listened and gave her a good examination. He watched my video footage, that was a useful thing to have, but somehow felt wrong videoing my child when in distress. Anyway, he offered to admit her if we wanted her to be, so she could be seen by ENT specialists, or to come home & return to ENT tomorrow. So we came home & are going back tomorrow. He says there is no infection, the lungs are clear, there is no fever, but he feels the problem is in the throat area. The sound is not like a tight chest but that of a windpipe that is restricted. I totally agree. It may be something to do with an operation she had on her soft pallette last year. He has suggested that we see the consultant at the childrens hospital asap too, but in the meantime see the local ENT people.

Now - why could my own GP not have had a similar consultation with me earlier today?

PS - there was a young girl in there, who was rushed in as she had tried to take her own life :( She was angry & very abusive, swearing constantly & shouting & hitting out at the staff. They do have to put up with some things don't they? I have great respect for nurses and wouldn't work in a hospital for all the money in the world. (I'd faint at the blood & horrible stuff anyway) but I think they do a wonderful job.

At last!!! Someone who showed compassion and was willing to listen to you and help Ashleigh at last!

I hope they will now be able to find the problem and treat it accordingly for her..

Just the fact that he listened to our concerns, is very reassuring. He was lovely. Worth the long wait. Shame you have to resort to going to A&E though because your own GP can't be bothered to do anything.

The lady on the desk asked what time it started, I said 3 weeks ago, she said but what time did it start today, I said it's been going on for 3 weeks & my GP won't do anything about it so we've come here!

Hurrah - let's hope this sorts it out now.

PS - your work/holiday; can you negotiate with your work to either take unpaid leave (they might like that!), borrow leave from next year or work extra hours per week to make up? You'll need some time off after all your recent travails and if you don't get it there's a chance you'll be forced to take time off because you'll be sick!

I could take some unpaid leave, but couldn't afford to. But the new holidays has just started & I still have a bit from last year too, so I'm ok, but don't want to use it all up. I am fortunate enough to be able to work at home sometimes, so that is what I shall do tomorrow.

--------------------------------------------------------

We have been to ENT, very helpful, very thorough & quite a charming consultant too! We saw 2 consultants, they have advised they think there is a problem from her operation last year & that we go back to the specialists at the childrens hospital to see the consultant that did her operation. The male consultant from ENT today contacted Ashleighs sugeon from the childrens hospital whilst we were there & requested an urgent appointment. They will call me back with a date. The ENT specialists said they are only trained in ENT & not the type of surgery that Ashleigh had, so they felt it really was best we go to see the people who know best in that area.

At last someone sensible, someone who has listened and is willing to do somethig to sort this out.

You're getting somewhere at last! I hope Ashleigh doesn't have to wait too long for the appointment at the Children's Hospital ..........now why couldn't your doctor have done that for her in the first place! Hope all goes well..:)

:( She had a really bad attack this afternoon. :(

Couldn't breath at all, very frightening for me to watch her. I was quite upset. Called the childrens hospital & explained the situation, she spoke to a doctor and suggested we will be seen at the next clinic, which is next week. I said I can't wait until next week as I can't witness her having one of these attacks again. She said I should take her to A&E. I explained that the A&E at our local hospital don't specialise in the problem, so she suggested we take her to the A&E at the childrens hospital, so we are off this evening to the Birmingham Childrens hospital A&E.

Went to childrens hospital A&E.

Waiting time was flashing at 4 hours on arrivel & then 5 hours shortly afterwards....

Luckily we were seen after just 2 hours.

Were seen by ENT Dr, who suggested an inhaler may help with the symptoms & she gave us one.

Thankfully, the little episodes seem to be getting less severe (no thanks to the inhaler as we've not used it yet)

We ahve to see the consultant who did her operation next week & I have faith in him that he will have some answers or know where to find them.
