Bluebell has been off colour for a couple of days.
Took her to the vets & they ran some tests.
She has a lot of blood in her urine & so is on treatment. Could just be cystitis, could be crystals or worse could be a kidney problem.
Poor Boo boo.
She has to go back Monday or sooner if we're worried.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes.

I ahve to take her back on Monday. I want to take her back to the vets today, but not sure what they can do as her TX hasn't had time to start working yet.:?

Her bahaviour is quite frightening, she is hiding in the spare room which noone ever goes in, but she is hiding behind the curtain in there. I don't think she's had a wee for ages.

She hasn't eaten for a few days now and won't eat chicken or anything.

Oh I hope poor little Bluebell starts to feel better soon, I think if she is behaving like that she is really distressed I would certainly take her back today, if you have not seen her wee for ages it could be that she might have a blockage that will need to be cleared.
Again I hope that she picks up soon.

Hoping poor baby Blue has plucked up courage to wee and is feeling better.
I'd take her back - if only for a nice soothing Metacam jab, to take the nasty pain away.
(Remember how much cystitis hurts?)

She had metacam yesterday. I will give the vets a call now & have a chat.

She isn't distressed as she does a little purr when we go & see her, she is just needing time-out & I think is in pain.. the kitten is really getting on her nerves. :(

thanks for all your good wishes.
It is not good news. She is very sick. When I went back to the vets on Friday morning, they kept her in and gave her IV fluids. They scanned her kidneys & x-rayed her & ran extensive blood tests. They found a mass on her left kidney, which was very worrying & she had more blood in her urine than the previous day. I went back to the vets at 4.30pm & was there until 7.45pm whilst they did some of the tests & discussed the options. They suggested a specialist referral which we agreed to & have a provisional appoinment for Tuesday. However on Friday evening she was so sick, that when we went back Saturday we had decided maybe euthanasia was a kinder option than all this suffering & waiting & then for the specialist to confrm a cancerous tumour & advise euthanasia. She was vomiting & coughing, hiding in bizare places & in obvious pain. We had a very long chat with our vet & I told him we could not put her through further testing if the prognosis was so poor anyway. I asked him what he would do if she were his cat, and he thought we were being very sensible but suggested we give her the weekend to start improving. He had been thinking about other possibilities & thought it may be a kidney trauma instead of a tumour causing the mass like image. They kept her in all day for more IV fluids & we went back on the afternoon whilst they rescanned her. The mass was no longer as visible and we had the previous images saved to comapare. She has not been to the toilet since at least wed, so he drained her bladder and the stuff in it was dark brown/red but the VN said it was not as bad as the previous time when they took a sample. She looked more alert & peaceful so we brought her home. She is on endless drugs & I am injecting her every 6 hours with pain relief. She's on anti-sickness pills & diazepam amongst others. My vets are working their socks off to make her better & she is being a perfect patient. Didn't need to be sedated for scans or x-rays. Last night she was fairly bright, although she hasn't eaten since wed or been to the toilet still which is a worry obviously.
I won't be on much now again as my Dad is also very ill after being rushed to the hospital Friday evening where I spent all night with him in A&E, and between the vets & the hospital I don't seem to have a minute. I am taking some time off work next week.
Thankyou all for your thoughts. x

Yes a car or a good kicking, but there's no bruising & she's been shaved, so it doesn't make sense.

Kelly - I'm so sorry to be responding so late; I've only just seen your thread. I'm hoping too that Bluebell continues to get better - surely being a bit brighter in herself is a good thing.

You must be so very worried about your Dad though. It's especially scary when the symptoms are baffling the doctors. Very best wishes to Bluebell and your Dad.

I've booked a few days off work so I can concentrate on Bluebells drugs  and ensure we have time for vets appoinments & hospital visiting.

Have been to the vets this morning.

Bluebell is fairly bright.

Although the blood results showed nothing too alarming, her RBC count was high & the vet has taken more blood today, but it was thick & was clotting straight away as he was taking it. He did get enough to send away though.

She had another enema & when we got home we did a big poo. So I am chuffed about that. Just need a wee now & we will be over a huge hurdle. She has not urinated by herself since at least last Wed. She had her bladder emptied by the vet on Saturday but still hasn't been by herself.

She is not eating & is looing weight, but is taking liquid food by syringe & is keeping it down.

She is far from well, but the improvements are encouraging. Bluebell is coping well, much better than my purse is!

I spoke to the referal clinic today & explained that we had decided on Saturday that euthanasia may be kinder, however my vet suggested we give her the weekend & she is responding to treatment & were they happy for me to continue being treated at my local practice for now & come back to them at a later date if needed. She said that was fine & they would keep Bluebells details on file if we need to get in touch again.

Dad was more settled & alert last night, although still got abdominal pain & his breathing is still not right. He has 5 IV lines in him, a catheter & a tube into his stomach via his nose. So as you can imagine, it's not nice seeing him like this. They have got his blood sugar level down to normal now which is a good thing.

Went back to the vets at 5.20pm. blood results were better, the (can't remember) was a better reading & that's the one that shows damaged tissue / cells are being repaired, this was a better reading indicating that there has been some healing going on, which again points to a trauma. He drained her bladder & it was a lovely healthy colour, no blood. When he drained it on Saturday it was dark red/brown (gross!) so I am chuffed that her urine is normal. All the other blood results were ok, just her RBC count was a little high, but better than before. She still isn't eating & was slightly deydrated, but has had no IV fluids today & I haven't been giving her fluids via syringe, only food (which is mainly water) So I will ensure she has lectade often too. Back again tomorrow. I just wish she would do a wee! Vet was concerned incase there is some bladder paralysis, but I hope not.

Our other 3 cats are not eating that well & Lilly is definately not right at all. Can't cope with more poorly people or animals, but have to take Lilly tomorrow too.

Dad was much better when I first arrived today, but then had an episode of breathing problems & pain again, so not sure what is going on.

So to sum up, it's ups and downs all the time really, one minute you feel things are good, then not so good.

Thanks again for your good wishes. x

Bluebell is continuing to improve, slowly.

Dad is home from hospital today, although very weak & still unwell.

Tiger Lilly Pumpnin had a herniated rupture near her spay site, which is why she was off-colour & not eating. She had to have a big operation yesterday to repair it. Her wound is huge, she is ripping at her stitches at every chance so is wearing an elizabethan collar.

Got a call from school yesterday to collect Ashleigh as she was unwell & had to go to the doctors with her.

Had news a few days ago that a family friend has just passed away, so are awaiting news of the funeral.

Not been a good few days.

If only she would do a wee, we'd be on the mend I'm sure.

Pumpnin seems to have recovered well from her operation & is again bouncing around like a frog! She has stopped chewing & pulling her stitches, so we've taken her collar off.

Kazz
28-03-2009, 09:33 PM
Cats appear to be "open game" for people and people seem to have a hate them or love 'em attitude...to cats. And do crueler things than they would to dogs, maybe because they roam.

Poor old Bluebelle, they were very lucky whoever kicked her that John was not around. She is very trusting though, that is always a worry isn't it. Better to be a bit aloof or stay at home.

B@stard cruel b@stards.
Kazz is right about people not being able to cope with cats' independence. Have you noticed that cat-hating is generally a sign of low intellegence?
I am always wary of people who say they don't like cats. Sometimes it's fine; they just don't care for cats but are OK people but more often they are flawed people and as well avoided.

The difficult thing for you now S is that whoever it was probably lives near you and could do it again, to Bluebell or another of your cats. Difficult situation. Or does the vet think it could just have been a car or bike? In a way that would be easier to accept, wouldn't it?

smudgley
29-03-2009, 09:34 AM
Bless her, great to hear she is on the way up!! Has she had a pee?

Oh yes, she has and we had a little celebration when she did at home. The 4 of us sang a song together...."celebrate good times, comes on... Boo-boo did a wee come on" We were dancing around the lounge and Boo-boo was most put out that we were making an issue over her toilet behaviour when she really wanted to do it outside and not be kept in to monitor her in the tray!

So looks like she is back on good form.

It may have been a bike, a car or a nasty fall from a tree. the vet is convinced it was a blunt blow to the area.

I don't know if / who would kick her. We have 17 gardens backing onto ours due to the shape of it, most of them we know & I can't imagine any of them doing anything of the sort, but then I couldnot imagine ANYONE doing that, so you just don't know. What I do know is that if we ever found out who it was my brother-in-law has threatened to make their kidneys sore! And he would too.

I was thinking about it and she isn't nasty to other cats. I know Smudge is a bully  and thought if it had been her, maybe it was because she was being a bossy-boots to somoenes cats. But Bluebell doesn't have a nasty bone in her body. She doesn't know what nasty is.

We need to move off from this awful time. I keep thinking about how ill she was last Fri / Sat and the fact that we got the girls to say goodbye to her as we said we may not bring her back. We didn't think there was any hope for her at that point.

We are keeping her in still and she hasn't been out for over a week, but whilst she's on the diazapam she is a bit "high" and clumsy.

We will have her off them by about Tuesday, so maybe she can go out a little then.

We haven't really discussed the options of her going out again, but she loves to & she will, but maybe not all day. She usually goes out at about 5.30am and comes in at about 5.30pm.

We need to start on her hair now! John usually grooms her every day for 10 mins. We haven't been grooming her whilst she's been sick. She has all her abdomen shaved and matted curls from all the ultraound gel, which is only water based, but it's done a good job of mating her coat. So she has little tufts and knots all over. We can make a start on repairing her hair now she is better. :-D

Smudgley,
Im sooooo pleased that Bluebell is well on the road to recovery.. you must be feeling so relieved after all that you have all been through in the last wee while..
Having a good laugh about the tray monitoring... and the happy dance after a satisfactory contribution to the tray... I was like that with Tinky...i have even been none to take pictures of drops of urine or a suspect poo.. to show the vet.. so bluebell should be pleased she doesn't have me for a mother!!

hugs to you both

Jo George and Harri xoxoxo

That's wonderful news! I'm so pleased she's pulled through and is improving every day, she's such a poppet..:D

I'm horrified at the thought that someone may have kicked her, how on earth someone could do that is beyond me. I just hope they get their comeuppance!

Give that special little fluffball a cuddle from me..:D

Hi Kelly, just catching up. So glad that Bluebell is better :D
Horrible to think our babes was the victim of cruelty, turns ya stomach.:(. Just re-reading my thread about Posh's lily poisoning, you were the first responder and told me to get to a vet stat! thank god, I listened to you. :)
