Here is the single, a Boy. We eventually had to assist Mum about midnight last night. This boy is big, she would never have managed alone. He is not feedin by himself yet. Tongue was quite swollen - he'll get there tomorrow probably.

We have one more due to lamb tomorrow or Tuesday. That will be us until mid April when we will be very busy with the main flock.

Will post some more pics of them when they are a bit bigger. They will be kept inside for a while as it is cold here. Maybe in a week or so, weather allowing, they'll get out for a bit during the day.

Thanks Moli - they are real wee sweeties. Their mums have had a lot of handling so they are so laid back, it's nice to get close to the babies.

Lovely pictures - thanks CM - first lambs of the year, very special.

I only just realised looking at your pictures that their eyes are open. Not having ever seen a newborn lamb "in the flesh", I just supposed their eyes would be closed to start with.

Quite the opposite. They are trying to get up on their feet within 10/15 mins and trying to feed very quickly after that. Really a survival instinct as the mums have to be watchful for fox and crows (also occasionally another broody ewe stealing) really important if they are born outside in early evening and it is twins or triplets.:o

Thanks for the info CM - I was thinking about it and I suppose all "prey" animals have to be up and able to run as quickly as possible in order to survive.

I feel I can look at sheep and lambs with a completely free conscience as I do not like the taste of lamb or the smell of it cooking, so I don't buy lamb at all. (I still like the mint sauce though!!!)

I love woolly jumpers, but I can wear those without harming the sheep.

Angieh - you do not like the smell or taste of lamb  how can anyone not like the smell or taste of lamb  .....

I've told you this before on catsey, but a couple of years ago my mate hand reared some orphan lambs to eat :? They were loved and nurtured and bedded down on bedding thick enough for me & you to sleep comfortably in. They even called out the vet when one had a sore eye. I helped her bottle feed them occasionally and said I didn't know how she could eat them when she'd reared them and loved them so much......anyway at Christmas time, she asks me and some of her other good friends if we wanted a leg of lamb for Christmas  ........ well of course I had one & it was absolutely beautiful......... (Well I know I said I couldn't eat them, but how can you not when it's such gorgous well reared meat)

Smudgley, my grandma kept chickens, and I liked them, but had no problems with having stewed chicken! Like Angie, I don't care much for lamb, except shish kebab. I guess there's a distinction somewhere in the mind between pet animals and food animals..or am I just weird?

I don't have any trouble with the thought of eating lamb, it's a good tasty meat and can be locally sourced. I just don't like it!

Mind, I did have a wonderful Italian-type lamb stew once in an hotel - that was lovely and as I didn't cook it, I wasn't affected by the smell. Perhaps it's the smell that puts me off before I ever get to eat it.

I'm with you Angie, can't stand lamb because of the smell. OH goes up to his parents to have it for Sunday lunch because I won't/can't cook it. My mum and sister are the same.

Quick update Mum no 3 had her lamb late last night. There were two but one had been dead for quite some time. Will post some more pics of them skipping about when they're a bit older.;)

Just remember, if no one eats lamb then you won't see them as there'll be no need for them.

Also we'd have no business, so no income, so couldn't keep our animals and poor Alfie and Kinsi would be out on the streets.   ;)

Eeek! Will get some lamb at the market for shish kebab! I'd be happy to rehome Alfie and Kinsi, although I suspect the Princess might have a different opinion .....:-D
