What gorgeous, shiny black pups!:D

Will they be trained up as Guide Dogs eventually, Smudgley?

They are gorgeous wee ones and I think what they are able to do once trained is absolutely wonderful.

What happens to the ones that don't make the grade Smudgley?

Firstly, if suitable they are offered to other working homes... police/hearing dogs / dogs for disabled/ CP and loads more, if that's not an option they are homed as pet dogs.

edit to add - CP is Canine Partners (not Cats Protection)

Thanks, I have wondered. I bet the waiting list for that sort of dog, even if it is not suitable for guiding etc. must be very, very long.

Yes the waiting lists are long, although not sure many people will want this particular litter if they don't make it  ..............they are in fact black lab cross Irish water Spaniels  shocking!

Sorry to be dense - I know X breeding is frowned on, but is there something in particular to be avoided because of their cross? Or is it just they'll jump into the first available bit of water?

Would love to see how they grow up! Thought their coats looked slightly curly. We have two IWS at the practice, both great dogs.

Cross breeding is generally frowned upon, however obviously Guide Dogs are using their own stock (own the male & female) and use crosses to make good working dogs. We have one IWS stud. I'm sure if any of these pups are not suitable for Guide Dog work, they will be snapped up for homes, but the IWS in them is not everyones cup of tea. They do however make a good working cross which is what is important to us.

I'm only starting to learn about dogs - hope this lovely litter goes on to give years of help and pleasure to their people.
