Had a call last night about a pregnant cat, that some people saw being mated 8 weeks ago. She is heavily pregnant & living outside. I made arrangements to take her in today and they said she always comes for her breakfast, typically she hasn't been anywhere near there today.... She's called Lucy. I hope they find her soon. the lady will call me as soon as she finds her. They said they saw her eating a rat last week :( poor little thing.. (cat not rat)
I shall keep you posted, I have a maternity pen all set up for her and will await the call.......

Oh dear! I'm not sure of the gestation period, could she be off hiding having her kittens? I hope you can find her soon......

I hope she's with you soon Smudgley, not very comfortable for her having her kittens outside at this time of the year :(

Yes she will be due to have them in about a weeks time, but then I guess they are estmating it was 8 weeks ago, so who knows she could be due now, she could have gone off to have them, then we'll never find her. I've still not heard anything. :(

Do the people who phoned have any idea if another neighbour fed them as they may be holed up in thaeir shed/...or they may have done the same and offered the cat help.

How is the weather there, Smudgley? Poor Lucy, hope she's found soon before it's too late for the kittens (assuming that's why she's not been seen....)

It's actually been a lot milder today than we have been having, but the frost at night-times are harsh. She still hasn't been seen.
They said she comes every day without fail, so to be missing for 2 days seems unusual.

Sad. My Onyx was as regular as clockwork, so when she hadn't come for two days I went into panic mode.... hope Lucy's outcome is better..... :(

I called the lady today for a chat.
Noone has seen Lucy since Friday.
She is confident noone has taken her in to give birth.
She is confident another rescue haven't taken her in.
She is fairly sure on dates that the kittens are not quite due just yet....... So we can only hope she is safe & comes back.

I don't mean to sound morbid, but am wondering how long a mum cat can go without food after birthing before she needs to leave the kittens to find some? I know they eat the placentas, but I do hope she'll show up at her usual feeding place soon ...I can't help but worry about this little cat!

smudgley

You'd be suprised, they are such wonderful Mothers. What amazes me is how they find the warmest of sheltered places to give birth.

I really don't believe that dogs would have the same sense to make such a good nest out in the cold at night & I am sure that puppies would not survive as kittens do.... but I would bet my bottom dollar that if she has had the kittens, she is safe & warm and somehow (who knows how) but somehow is getting food.

Hope that you are right Smudgley, we would all be happy then, still got everything crossed.
