Hi everyone,

While I was away we discovered that Ocean is a boy as promised...but choco is a girl!!!! So Ocean is being chopped on Monday. Can anyone tell me what I can expect? I've never had a cat neutered before as I've always had same sex house cats...

Thanks!
Lorna xx

Hi Lorna,
Castration is a fairly simple procedure and the cat is usually only under anaesthetic for approx 10 minutes. The area is usually plucked rather than shaved and the wounds are left open to heal rather than any stitches put in. In most cases you wouldn't even realise the cat has had a general anaesthetic as they bounce back really quickly, especially at a young age, although your vet may recommend restricting food intake for the evening to avoid any problems with nausea caused by the drugs used.

Hi, for a male it is a quick op and they barely seem to notice. Tolly groomed himself with a bit of a puzzled expression as if to say 'wasn't there something there?'. It's a great decision to have him done - no unwanted kittens from your lovely boy!

Because Choco's would have been a bigger op and I'm going away in a weeks time and they're being cat-sat I didn't want to have her done yet, I'll get her done the week I come back, I'm thinking about letting them out as I might be co-owning a puppy with my parents so they might like to be outside when the puppy comes over during the day....I'm not sure yet though!

Well if the female is near 6mths I wouldnt let her out, she may get pregnant which will be awful for a baby!!!

She's 7 months, and I think I must have written that out wrong, I had Ocean done first because I know that Choco's is a bigger op, and I'm away for a week from Tuesday, so they're being kitten-sat, and I wanted to be there to keep an eye on her.

They've never been out, and definitely not daft enough to let her out before she's been done lol. I meant I might be letting them out when I'm back and she's been done too! Sorry must have not been clear... xx
