As promised, some photos of our new greyhound puppy *foster* Poppy.
we colledcted Poppy from Bristol last week, she arrived in England from Ireland a week ago. She and her siblings were a cruelty case rescued by the charity DAWG.

Poppy is a delight and I think Caleb, our brindle lurcher is in love with her! To see them play and chase each other is a delight. Poppy loves people and is very cuddly and loving. She is full of mischief and loves to 'counter surf'! She has a mild interest in the cats, but no malice whatsoever.

She's beautiful! What a lucky girl to be living with you now, we used to deal with a few dogs sent over from Ireland-poor babies were always in an awful state :(
Look forward to seeing lots more pics of Poppy!

she looks lovely - super colour.

I occassionally meet a girl who is involved in greyhound rescue up here when out walks with Cali. I always find them such big soft lumps it's tragic the way some of them are treated.

I'm glad she has found a way forward and hope she enjoys and grows in her time with you.

Kim, she's lovely and has a very gentle looking face........ how on earth could anyone mistreat a beautiful animal like her..:?

I'm sure she will get lots of love and attention from you and your family which will hopefully help her to forget any abuse she has had in the past.

Well done to you...:D

Thank-you all. She is about 6 months old, she looks so small compared to our other two! She has been so good today, toilet training is coming on well. A pleasure to have around.

DM, I love longdogs too! ;)

I had heard that greyhounds/lurchers didn't get on well with cats in the same house - is that a myth?

I hadn't heard of that before?

My auntie is onto her second lurcher and she has 3 cats and has never been a problem. Stealing food from the fridge and chasing people on pushbikes has tho lol x

I had heard that greyhounds/lurchers didn't get on well with cats in the same house - is that a myth?

Not a myth exactly, greys & lurchers are often trained to chase and lurchers to catch rabbits, etc, so some will chase and kill cats sadly. However, not all of them do this. My blue greyhound is an ex-racer, but lives happily with our cats. However, he is very keen on cats outside our house and I wouldn't like to say with certainty that he wouldn't hurt one. Caleb was only 9 months when we had him, so probably never trained to chase, Poppy has probably never even met a cat before so her prey drive is non-existent! My previous grehound and lurcher were fine with our cats too.

I know of many greys who live in harmony with cats, but unfortunately there are many others who wouldn't be re-homed with cats. :(

Here are some of my fav photos of our cats & dogs.

Thanks for the info on how your dogs and cats get on. I loved the pictures of them all on the bed - what excellent proof that they can live happily together.

So glad to hear that Poppy is getting on with you and your family well - are you taking bets as to whether she'll be a "sticker"? :-D :-D :-D

Thanks Kazz. Well, I have never seen a puppy greyhound as young as Poppy before, so no I don't think you ever really see greyhound pups around, even the vet said "we don't get many of these in here". Poppy is very michievous, but very loving and that face could melt the hardest of hearts! She is now about 7 months old. Not had a good start in life, but putting on weight nicely and is a cheeky, confident little madam! :)

PS. By the way you have my fire and fireplace too........honest I think you have

Well, we obviously have the same good taste Karen! ;)
