Thanks Moli, it's the first time I've grown an amaryllis....I was beginning to wonder when the stem would stop growing:roll::lol:

Shame yours died, was it a new bulb?

No it was one I have had for a couple of years, always bloomed till now, think maybe lack of watering had something to do with it:roll:

Absolutely stunning, Mags! That's a lovely double; love amaryllis as they're so spectacular and easy to care for!

Moli, are you sure it's dead and not just gone dormant because of lack of water?

According to my son, its dead DM, did tell him to give it a small amount of water....knowing him, he will drown it!!:(

Don't throw it out just yet, may surprise you and revive. Some of mine stay green when I bring them inside for the Winter, others lose their leaves and look quite dead for a bit, but do leaf out......

Love the colours. I've never tried one - always thought they were difficult?

It's the first time I've tried growing them CM and they really are easy:D I also have a red one in bud but I don't think the flower will break through for another week or two......

Might try one for next Xmas then. I do love seeing them as they are such spectacular flowerheads.

Oh do, CM. they are so rewarding. I'm a real amaryllis nut; give the pre-potted ones as gifts at Christmas and always buy another one for myself; must have about 8 now. And they rebloom with minimal care, at least here where they Summer outside.
I have two new ones where the bud is just peeking out of the top of the bulb; can hardly wait to see the blooms! There will be pics!

Wonder if I could start off one now? - if they're given as xmas pressies I can't be too late?

You certainly could! Probably won't bloom in time for the day itself, but how lovely in bleak dreary January to have them flowering. I'm referring to starting from the bulb; however you can buy them already started and in bud at garden centres/nurseries, etc. Our Whole Foods market has them in bud now!

It was Eileen who got me interested in them :D

You could certainly start one off now CM...:D

Well, went to garden centre today and bought three!

Decided to give one to my Mum as part of her Xmas - so hers is called Christmas Star.

For myself I got two bulbs, Picotee and Nymph.

They had quite a few varieties so I was spoiled for choice.

Planted them up and they are on Kitchen window sill. Fingers crossed they do for me.

I'm sure you and your Mum will be delighted with them CM...:D

Here's mine today, all the buds have now opened. The smaller one still in bud beside it is a red one....

They look stunning Mags, I wanted a red one as my Grandpa used to have one like that but it was about the only colour they did not have. If they do ok then maybe next time!!
