He's still not right, am thinking it has to do with his teeth as he has gingivitis.
So it's a trip to see Andrew this afternoon.

Oh poor Bernie. That is painful. I hope he can have some anti-inflamatories to take the anger out of the gums but usually extraction is the only long-term solution :(

Andrew said that on a scale of 1 to 5 Bernies teeth and gingivitis would be about a 2 and therefore doesnt think that's whats bothering him. He also said that there is not alot of tartar on his teeth either. However, just to cover all things, he gave Bernie a penicillin injection and a steriod injection. The former, incase of any small infection and the latter incase Bernie is pain sensitive due to the gingivititis.
He said to see hyow he goes over the next few days. If there is no improvement I should take him back and possibly check his liver and kidney function.
On another note though, Bernie was not a happy camper going to the vets:shock: normally he is the laid back dude. He went scapey and broke several claws which pinged me in the face whilest trying to drive:shock:

Now you know they are doing it to worry you don't you....I can just imagine Eva on a human forum saying "now you know the female was drinking alchol again..worrying":-D :-D :-D

Is he drinking Elaine?

Hope he has managed something. Obviously not happy is he? Did you manage to get him to eat the sardine?

Hope he feels better soon. Keep us posted.

He ate a little sardine and G managed to get him to eat a little cold meat. We have a water fountain which is being topped up no less than before, I also add a little water to the wet food. I havent witnessed him drinking but I assume he is.
I do have an over active worry gene, Kazz is right about that, but I know when things are just not quite right.
He's not been sick and still loves his cuddles, his eyes are bright but he's just not right.

Sounds like he does have a low tolerance to the gingivitis...its a devil toothache. I hope he's better soon Elaine...is he drinking....? I always add water to the food doing it to the boys now.

When is he due back at the vets...maybe he does need a bit of a dental.

I'd give it 48hours or so then if you still feel the same you could even call the vet.

I know that my vet knows if I phone, I'm not being a pain, I'm genuinely worried. Fngrs x'd.

The vet didnt seem to think so but said that if he was no better by Friday to take him back in. He said they may run blood tests to check liver and kidney function and clean up his teeth at the same time just incase.
How long would it have taken for the injections he got to take effect? Would it have been imediate or would the penecillin maybe take a little longer?

calismum

I think penecillin takes 3-4 hours (based on sheep!!!!!!!!!!)

Please tell Bernie that Merlin has eaten well yesterday and has eaten a good breakfast this morning - then tell him Posh's dental is tomorrow and she'll be fine. He's a lovely boy to worry about others, but it's OK now and he can eat properly and do normal things so as not to worry his mum so.

(Who knows, might work! You don't suppose he's jealous of Eva's attention from Bob, do you?)

Elaine

Thankyou all so much for all your well wishes, my boy is back to normal this afternoon, meowing for food as we speak:lol: . He has had another poo, eaten some RC hairball buscuits and some gourmet chicken in a white sauce.
Think what ever was bothering him has now passed and he is back to his playful self.

angieh

There - he was worried about Merlin and Posh!

So glad he's better Elaine. I do understand how worrying it is - as you know! Lots of tlc for both of you for a few days, if Eva will let you!

Bernie never normally gives me any cause for concern and can never wait quietly for food, has a good healthy apetite too so when that wasnt there, I knew something was up with my boy;)
Have to laugh, I was talking to my sister about it and was telling her that Andrew had said, "so what do you think mighyt be up with him?" and "how do you feel if we try this aproach first?"
My sister laughed and said, there's a vet that has sussed you out very quickly and knows how to deal with you and your animals by asking your advice, therefore making you feel like you have ALL the control.
