View Full Version : Do your cats share their catch with you?

I had a most unpleasant experience this morning upon waking!

I vaguely recall at some point before the alarm going off, being aware that one of the cats made their way up the bed, paused a moment between mine and OH's heads, and then left again. Now picture this.......

Hubby and I both woke up, at precisely the same moment, facing each other, and opened our eyes.......to see? A HUGE half-dead spider on the pillow beside his head.....trying desperately to crawl on it's mangled half-chewed legs. Let me point out that I am absolutely TERRIFIED of spiders, and OH is even worse than me! What followed was plenty of jumping about, "girly" high-pitched screaming (mostly from OH LOL!), and arguing about who was going to remove it! And I'm pretty sure there was some cat-snickering going on out on the landing!

I'm pretty sure it was Mouse who left the little gift for us, as Miw has a tendency to catch and eat spiders and flies without pause and they disappear almost before we notice there is one LOL. Mouse however, does not eat anything she catches.......though she rarely catches anything as she's not terribly coordinated or graceful LOL. Mouse has a tendency to play with spiders and flies....letting it start to walk away and then slamming a paw on it, repeatedly until the poor things are half-dead......then she gets bored and leaves them to suffer in agony LOL! So, yes......it MUST have been Mouse who left the spider!

So, did she do it to share her catch? Or was it to show us she was clever enough to catch it? Or does she know how much we hate spiders.......and therefor thought it would be good for laughs? LOL!

What have your cats brought you?

The only cat I've had who shared was the big ginger boy I grew up with. He used to line up his dead mice (with heads, Moli!) on the porch steps every morning. Leia brings me her mice to show me and be praised for being as mighty mouser.
As a severe spider-phobic, I think that's one of the most horrifying stories I've heard...still alive....eeeek!
And I do wonder if Mousie was snickering at the uproar.....

I'll have nightmares for weeks.....likely be up every hour checking the bed for half-dead spiders LOL! Mice I could just about handle I think....maybe not headless ones though.....but SPIDERS!?!??!

And I am sure that it was Mousie and she was likely doing it just for kicks and cheap thrills LOL She is rather mischievious!

One of my earlier cats used to drop off her catch on a particular spot on the lawn to show off. We used to call it her parade ground. I'm afraid any cat that left a spider for me would probably finish me off! my flesh is crawling just thinking about it!

Well she very nearly finished my OH off LMAO! He was the one doing all the "girly" shrieking and standing on the laundry basket (not sure why.....the spider wasn't on the floor.....and wasn't moving very fast LOL!)

I have a feeling I'm going to have an uneasy sleep and bad spider dreams tonight!

Beauty only ever brought one dead mouse and a dead baby bird.

Dylan hasn't brought anything yet, he hasn't been out unsupervised.

EDIT: Which she showed us then promptly ate!

A cat that used to own me (Herod) once bought home a pack of vacuum packed bacon, slightly savaged at one corner. I'm veggie so he nicked it from someone else but I never found out who
One of the cats we had when I was a child occasionally bought home very expensive goldfish from a pond. The pond next door began to resemble a fortress rather than a pond.
The current trio specialize in live prey which take us ages to catch and release. Luckily a spider hasn't figured yet, reckon that would get a high C from me.
