I just popped into the 02 store on my lunchbreak and have 99% made up my mind to get an iPhone. They are hot and a half!

My current contract runs out mid-December so I'd prob get the new phone beginning of December to prevent any period without a phone. 02 have some great tarrifs now, and I think I'll go for the £35 month. You have to pay £99 for the phone initially, but get free wi-fi and 3G at all times, as well as usual 600 mins and unlimited texts.

When I was playing around with the phone I just couldn't believe how awesome it was. It's pretty much like a laptop, with all the functions and features. Only downside I can see is getting used to the keypad (I am a super-fast texter on a normal phone).

Anyone got an iPhone? Positive or negative comments? If you do have any negative experiences let me know before I rush head-on in! I have read up on reviews online, so am thinking about it first, but the only difference between having it and my current phone and contract is the £99 price to pay when you first get. I'm currently on £35 a month anyway, without the free wifi! So the iPhone is actually a better deal.

I'm so frigging excited :D

Wow - I can't believe what 'you young people' ( ) are happy to pay for your connectivity! What a lot of money  £420 a year - a holiday! or half a new sofa, or a flat screen TV or a meal out for two every month.
I hate mobiles and the way they make you 'available' at all times. I have one but I put about £40 a year, max, in, on pay as you go - it's for emergencies only and only about 6 people have the number. I don't expect to get calls on it, don't normally make calls on it - I do that on the landline and after 6 and at weekends when it is free.

Bah, Humbug (again - I said that yesterday too)
(Ever had that feeling you are of a different generation? :)

... but I acknowledge that this is now and things are as they are and mobiles can be extremely useful at times when you're not at home.

Enjoy your iPhone, if you get it, meep - I'd take the holiday instead :)

I completely appreciate your thinking on this DM. As a student I was on a tight budget and would also been along the same thinking, that a mobile could be less important than other things to spend the money on. I probably put £10 a month into my mobile as a student. But for 'my generation' mobiles are pretty much an essential to social communication. not that my friends would disown me without one, but I can text me friends, my dad etc. every second day instead of a phone call (although I will still call every 2 weeks), and if you have one important thing you need to say, a quick text gets the message across. It also means you can leave a message for someone via text if they're not picking up their phone. I just find them hugely useful, and as I said, I couldn't imagine not having my phone on me. It makes me feel closer to a lot of my friends who are far away since moving away after Uni, as I can just pick up the phone and in 2 secs have sent a wee "hello! how are you? saw this and thought of you" message and have a quick chat with them. it's nice :)

Now I'm no longer a student and on a decent wage, the iPhone is a dream for me :D Literally, I dreamt that I had one last night, hence why I went into the store today! And I admit it's expensive when added together, but I personally would rather spend that on something I can have all year, than £420 on one holiday that would last one week and then be over. I actually prefer to spend my money on objects than holidays, and whilst I love travelling, always think they're so expensive they're a bit of a luxury. Whereas £35 / month for a phone I could enjoy every day seems more logical to me ;)

It really is amazing what you can do with it though. And my job does have me travelling around a bit, so I can still access emails and the internet whereever I am, whilst travelling on the train etc.

It is interesting how different 'generations' see value in different things. I know I'm part of a materialistic generation, but I personally don't buy into a lot of the immediate, consumerist satisfaction a lot of students did at Uni, such as buying a new outfit everytime they went out.

Let's just call the iPhone my indulgence ;)

Thanks for mentioning this Donna. I'll ask the customer rep. at 02 about this.

Matron - the package is really great! Whilst DM has pointed out that compared to other things it can be considerd expensive, but in relation to the cost that using the internet on a mobile used to cost, it seems cheap as chips! It's all relative though I guess ;)

I have a blackberry curve too. I love the fact it has a proper keyboard and not a phone keypad as I'm a rubbish texter!

I really wanted an iPhone as I love it's user interface and just the whole look of it. But at the time you couldn't get it to synchronise with a microsoft exchange server (to pick up my work emails and to send using my work email addresses).

Of course now, the new phone will do that!! But I'm on a 2 year contract

Enjoy your phone meep . . . . DM, I know what you mean. Sometimes I wish I was not always available but unfortunately I have to be. However I don't always choose to answer the phone/text/email ;)

I'm with DM on this! I have a mobile pay as you go - mainly for emergencies - esp when I'm out in the car on my own (and I have to say that I totally approve of this sort of practical help). I had a little step back in time yesterday when I realised that I was out without my mobile (OH borrowed it and hasn't given it back yet!) and I thought what do I do if I break down? Of course phone boxes are almost non existent now. So how do you get help?

I remember when my parents first went on the phone (party line) after my dad had his first heart attack. Seems like the dark ages now.

I also realised that I can access Catsey on the iPhone :) And the connection speed seems to be faster than the mobile broadband I have in the flat.

It is just so beautiful. I'm not really a 'techy' person but it has so many wonderful features, like being able to zoom in and out with touch, copy and paste text, and whilst I was typing and made a few mistakes it always corrected it to the right word with a better feature than most mobile's predictive text.

It also has GPS and maps, so you can go straight to maps and much like a Tom Tom it'll pick up where you are and if you type in 'dry cleaners' say, it will show you where the nearest dry cleaners are in relation to where you. Genius.

A beebo? Do you mean the website Bebo? Social networking site. You have your own profile, can make friends with others, upload photos, leave comments etc. If that's what you mean. Otherwise, I don't know what a 'beebo' is :?

Moli - great to know there's another satisfied customer :) It'll take me aw hile to get used to it I can tell, it does have so much in it!

Haha, i've always avoided that function on my mobiles too as it is confusing and can be costly. But the iPhone has it so well integrated, which is part of the reason I'm getting it.

I did look into an iphone, but decided that it wasn't worth it for me as I just wouldn't use it to its full advantage. However, if it's whatt you want - go for it! Only downside I know of is that you can't send or receive picture messages.

DM, I know where you're coming from, but I love having my mobile now, makes me feel more secure, especially when I was working nights. My OH used to text me about an hour before my shift finished, saying "not long to go" I really looked forward to that! I also feel happier driving knowing I have my phone and it is the only way I can keep in touch with my daughter now that she is at uni. We text each other every day!

I think it's a generational thing to a degree. Most of my friends don't have a cell phone; those that do are younger than I am. (I actually have friends who don't have a computer!!!). But it's a fact of life for younger people and you really need to have one to be in touch with everything 24/7. So get the best one you can afford, which sounds like the iPhone for you, Meep.

I've had one for years; had a regular one that I didn't use for anything but calling; features were way too complicated. So, then Samsung came out with the Jitterbug, which is a simple phone that's just a phone, I switched. I only use it for convenience...making calls outside when I don't feel like coming in to use the land line, or when I'm on the computer (dial-up). I never give the number to anyone, as I keep it off except when I want to call. It's comforting to have it upstairs at night if I should be ill or hear someone trying to break in. And do carry it with me when I'm out shopping, etc,

Friends husband has one and loves it. He uses it constantly.

I am also a pay as you go, don't use it unless you have to person.

I do have a blackberry supplied by work as I'm out and about a bit. Had the curve but hated it for calls so now I have the pearl.

I think if it meets what you want and ticks all the boxes then go for it.

(I'm going to the apple store on Monday, thinking about replacing my nano)
