Came home for my lunch an hour ago, without the usual kitten welcoming committee, eventually found Imogen on the armchair looking very sorry for herself. Checked her over and her right fore leg is twice the size of the other :(
Quickly rushed her downstairs and one of the vets had a look. She can feel a 'crunching' over the carpus (wrist) joint and her poor leg is so sore.
She's eaten this morning so we're going to x-ray her this afternoon and check for fractures. I'm just grabbing some lunch with her upstairs before we go down :(
Hope it's all ok, my poor baby! It doesn't make it any easier that I've seen lots of cats with these type of injuries.

Oh my gosh! You're so lucky to have your own on-call vet ;) Seriously, I hope Imogen is fine really soon . . . what is it likely to be? Fracture? How on earth would she have managed that?? Poor little one :(

Thank you everyone. Home now with a very sleepy Imogen. Thankfully no fractures on the x-rays but lots of soft tissue swelling. She can be a bit crazy when chasing flies-leaping on and off furniture and I think she may have just strained/sprained it. She'll be on strict rest and anti-inflammatories for 5 days then we'll reassess it, it's still very swollen at the moment but she's less painful after a jab.

Poor Liz, must have been upsetting for you :( Posh and I send our love to you both.
Hope Imogen gets well soon. May put an end to her flycatching for a while :)

It's very odd to see her so quiet :? She's eaten a bit but is really too sleepy to do anything else. Her leg is obviously much more comfortable as she's curled right up but it's still huge!

Very relieved it's not a fracture. And young cats heal fast, hopefully she'll be in less discomfort soon, poor baby! Sometimes I wonder how kittens survive until adulthood, the things they can get into ......

Angie, she's fed up! Her leg is less swollen and she's putting more weight on it now but she just wants to be out and running around!
The vet will check her again tomorrow afternoon and hopefully she'll be able to come out of the crate but we've hidden all the toys  They'd just be far too tempting.

Poor wee Imogen, it must be so frustrating as a kitten to want to run around and just not be able to! Hope she gets better really soon!

She's free! She's such a contrary thing, now she's allowed out, all she wants to do is sleep on my shoulder :D Not that I'm complaining of course! Her leg is a lot better but she'll still have to have metacam for a couple more days and still no playing! ;)
Thank you everyone for thinking of her-I'm useless when it's my own animals, forget everything I know and panic!

 I know that feeling! Posh make my heart jump into my mouth when normally I'm quite a 'together' person.
Hate it when she's out of sorts, or gone a-wandering/hiding!

A classic example of the shoemaker's child syndrome!! I think we all do...at least I do ......

Glad she has the choice to be 'free' now. I do agree about panicing when it is your own animal. I've had various animals for 30+ years and often get asked for advice by friends/family. Whenever one of my own is unwell I turn into the proverbial headless chicken!!!!

How is Imogen coming on today, Liz?

pinklizzy
22-08-2008, 01:43 PM
Well, I'm sure you're all going to think I beat her but this morning I got up to a kitten with a swollen face  She was in her pen overnight and I think she may have knocked her face while climbing the sides  It doesn't seem painful at all so we're just carryng on with the anti-inflammatories, although she's much safer out of the pen!

Poor little Imogen - she's in the wars at the moment. You must be wondering if she's a bit accident prone Liz?

pinklizzy
22-08-2008, 02:22 PM
I'm not sure whether she's accident-prone or just a bit reckless! I'm convinced this last knock has something to do with the fact that she was hanging from the top of the pen by one paw and swinging like a monkey! :-D

Well, they do say most accidents occur in the home! Poor wee girl, give her a chin--tickle from me .........
