Cats / dogs for sale

.....in Harrods yesterday!

Went to London for the day & we went in Harrods. there were papillon puppies for sale for £1500 and several types of kittens for £1000. :(

I just wondered how they can possibly vet the homes of people buying them? :roll:

I thought it was no longer legal to sell cats and dogs in stores?! But alas I'm wrong. Poor wee things.

This makes me so angry :evil: . I wish there were tighter regulation regarding the sale of pets and then may be we'd see less animals in shelters or abused.

They also had rabbits, gerbils, hamster,rats and ginea pigs. :roll:

What amazes me is who would SELL their pedigree kittens / puppies to Harrods in the first place? :roll:

Many years ago Harrods used to sell penguins!

I have looked without any success to find corroborative evidence meep! It's just something I remember from my childhood - they were referred to as "pint-sized penguins"!

I can't believe that seriously! The concept sounds cute, I couldn't help but laugh at "pint-sized penguins" but in practice it's just wrong!

It depends on local councils, what they will licence you to sell. Cannt sell cats and dogs in pet shops in Aberdeen but we do have an exotic pet store here who sell skunks, meercats etc.

Harrords has been selling cats and dogs for a long long time now, although I don't know how they vet potential new owners I would have thought at the prices they sell them for they would go to fairly good homes (but I am only presuming that)

Harrods have always had a pet shop. I remember it from when I was tiny. I have to admit I had no idea it was still going. And I'm a bit unhappy about the fact. But hey - it's no worse that Pets at Home or a local pet shop selling kittens, puppies, rabbits, guinea pigs etc

To my knowledge (which is very limited), apparently Harrods are extremely picky about who their pets are sold to.
