Due to the fact that I've done very little in the garden this year, I have yet another unidentified plant growing. I haven't got the foggiest idea where to look to start with this one. Sorry picture isn't too good - will try and get a better one later. The "shrub" is over 5 ft tall!

Any ideas?
Sorry Angie, don't recognise that one at all :?
That is a leycesteria, or common name peasant berry, they have bamboo type stems, cut them down to the ground in spring and they grow huge...I love them, have 2 in my garden..
Well done Moli, I've never seen that shrub before!:D

Can you get different colours or are they all the same? I like the colour of Angie's.:D

You can get them with golden leaves too, I have one of each colour, but the flowers are all the same colour...They are big shrubs though.....
One of my big ones...

Thanks Moli - you are knowledgeable! I think I might have to move it if it is as vigorous as that. Nice to know that you treasure them as good "dooers"!

I've read up on Leycesteria Formosa - the himalayan honeysuckle - sounds as if they have colourful berries too and are liked by bees! I'll have to pop out and see if they smell (that's a mixed do-dah isn't it!)

Just revisiting this thread to let you know that this plant is still flowering its socks off! I'm waiting to see what the berries look like!
It really is my favourite shrub, seem to grow anywhere too...mine is still flowering too...although I had to evict a few snails from it yesterday!!!!

I was looking for shrubs that would do wel in my windy, exposed situation. Might try and hunt one of these down come spring. The flowers look very unusual and I do like the colour.
