My ear was really painful for all of today so I went down to the doctors and it turns out I've got an ear infection. The inside of my ear is quite red! The doctor prescribed some painkillers for it so hopefully after a few days my ear will be inproving!

The painkillers seem to be working! The doctor said antibiotics wouldn't help (I'd already had paracetamol for it and that hadn't made much difference)

If the doctor said you had an infection, surely ABs would have cleared it up, pain killers only ease the discomfort...:?

Well the painkillers I've been prescribed will help to clear up the infection (that's what the doctor said!)

It's got something in it apparently that will help clear up the infection!

I would go back to the doctors and ask for antibiotics,i have never heard of them being treated with just painkillers, and ive never heard of a painkiller that has something in it that treats infections.
I suffer with ear infections,i get at least 3 a year and have done from the age of 2,all of them are always treated with antibiotics.
I dont mean to scare you but if this infection goes untreated it could lead to a perforated eardrum which may require surgery (i had to have surgery on my left ear due to a perforation and my right ear is still perforated) or permanent hearing problems.
I seriously would go back and ask for antibiotics

A bit better!

I've had a look at the packaging and the painkillers have anti-inflammatry properties apparently (according to the packaging)

Anti-inflammatry drugs will only reduce inflammation.
If this is a bacterial infection it will not clear up with anti-inflammatry drugs.
Did the doctor take a swab when you went in?
How many days have you had the infection now? If its 3 days or more I would go back and get antibiotics

No he shone a light in my ear then prescribed the tablets I've got to take (the anti inflammatry ones)

I would go back then if it hasnt cleared up and get a second opinion, so many things can go wrong with untreated ear infections.

If it hasn't cleared up by Monday I'll go back down.

To be honest I agree with Erin. I wouldn't wait on Monday. Either go today or go to the minor ailments dept at the hospital. There open 24/7
