Went to give buster his breakfast this morning about 10.30am and when I went to give him his inhaler I noticed that his right eye wasn't open and was leaking a lot of clear fluid. I had a very quick look well as much a look as I could considering it obviously hurt him a lot and it look nasty so i rang my vet and* asked to take him straight over as an emergency. We got the about 5 minutes later and we went in to see the vet and she confirmed that he had ruptured his eye    and would need surgery to fix it. Which would have to be done at a specialist so she rang the specialist to get me an appointment ASAP and they said bring him straight down so I drove to get his medicne first for his ashma and the set off as fast as I dared to solihul to the vet.We got there and saw the vet and she* examined him thouroughly and said that both his eye were damaged as they both had ulcers on them. She said that he would have to have a repair done to fix the rupture and that it would be done today. And she would check the left eye to make sure it wasn't going to rupture as well.Just got off the phone and he came through the OP Ok but his good eye was worse than first thought it has been cleaned and he has got a sort of contact lense thing on it to make i more comfortable for him and to help the healing. His bad eye was also fixed by taking some of the white out of the good eye and patching the hole. Now it is up two him as to whether his sight can be saved. She think it could be due to herpes or his immune system fighting the eye. But it is a vyer rare problem that the vet has only seen twice in her whole career. Not that that helps me much.Sorry it is a bit jumbled but I am in shock and it is very hard to explain the problem clearly when typing. Please send him healing vibes as he needs them so he can keep his eyes and his sight.thanksSally

I now how you feel. Tate's had nearly ruptured but luckily I got him seen before it got to that stage as he has had trouble with his eyes in the past. The trouble with ulcers is that in the early stages they can't always be seen by the naked eye and so by the time the ulcer can be seen it is usually bad. They can be caused by a scratch from another cat or something as simple as a whisker curling over into the eye and irritating it. I cut Tate's whiskers now because his curl over.
Best wishes to you and a big cat lick from Tate for Buster.

He made it through the night. The lense stayed on his left eye and his graft is still looking go. He is on antibiotics to insure that it doesn't get infected, anti heropes treamtment as well and eye drops to keep his eyes wet. They have also checked out his medication for his ashma and none of that has eye problems listed on it.
He is staying until tomorrow at least and they will call in the morning to let me know how it is going.

Poor tilly looks a bit lost without him but I am giving her loads of hugs and letting her sleep in the room with me until he gets back so I can keep her company

Hi buster hasn't improved to day so will be kept in over the weekend as they don't know what has caused his eyes to become damaged yet but are running more test and trying some different and added medication to try and prevent his eyes getting worse. The good news is the gratf on the rupture is still looking good it is just the ulcers things that haven't improved adn they might rupture again if they can't prevent them or make them better. He is well in himslef and eating and looking very chilled out.

Tilly was checked today to make sure that she hasn't got the problem as well and she is fine which is good.

Hope he gets better soon thank you all very much for your healing vibes and hugs I am sure they will work soon and he will be better soon but keep the comign if you can.

I will know more tomorrow and will keep you updated.

The check up went well but there is still alot of damage in his eye. But it seems to be improving.

He had to go to the vet today because he was pulling the fur off his back legs. The vet confirmed what I thought which was it is stress from having to have 3 sorts of eye drops 3 time a day and his inhaler 2 a day he is fed up of being poked about but it is nessicary to restore and preserve his sight so he is on diazepam for tonight and might start some happy juice tomorrow. It won't be long term just until he is on less drops for his eyes. The pill don't bother him as he eats the happily in his food so it doesn't stress him to give him the diazepam as it is a tablet. It is all the other stuff he hates. But hopefully we can stop them all soon and he can see. But until then he will be on the de stress meds. I just wish nI could explain why I am doing all this to him but saly I can't I can olny listen to him adn try and make it as pleasent as possible.

At least due to his rare condition his eyes don't cause him pain.

Will update you on how he is getting on He has another check up on friday at 1.30pm

please keep the good and chilled out vibes coming. I hope to be on the board more soon when thing have calmed down around here.

thansk for the support

Thanks Sally - I find the whole thing amazing! So glad Buster is being able to be medicated for his asthma. It must be stressful for him, but less so that not being able to breathe freely. I do appreciate his problem and sympathise with both him and you. Stress can make the breathing worse too, so the tranq is probably a good idea.

On brighter note his eyes are looking much better and are nearly healed all the ulcoers have gone and we just have to make sure the graft dosen't heal to well adn take over his right eye but other wise eveyrthing is Ok with his eyes.

Well if his eyes are healing that's one problem that can gradually be removed from the equation. Hopefully once he's feeling better the stress issues might resolve themselves.

Jsut as a thought, have you considered homeopathic stress relief?

Hi

Good news about the eye.

Sorry to hear that Buster is over grooming tho.

I know it sounds simplistic but might a post op collar help ?So he can't groom. I realise it's mainly stress related but I guess that the bits he has groomed and made sore will start to heal and itch and then he will groom again, and so on.

Just a thought.

Sending lots of healing calming vibes.
