I messaged the breeder last night because I have been worried about how to look after a 5 week old and to cut a long story short.. I called her buff ( maybe mine aswell) and told her I won't take the kitten until its 8 weeks old.. she replied and has agreed to keep the kitten until 7 to 8 weeks old.. which I am chuffed about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well that's good news, the kitten will have a much better time being in a familiar environment until 7/8 weeks

Well done you! A very wise thing to do for the kitten's health.

yes she told me the shes took the mother away from the kittens anyway.. I have no clue why shes done that.. she said they feed a few times a day off her!:(

Well they need to do that so that they get used to the idea that Mom won't be around forever.

How old are they now?

don't you think thats a little early?? 5 weeks! she said ones going next week and not sure about the others but I am not taking mine until 7 to 8 weeks.. shes got another cat thats just had kittens..
she thinks the mother is persian x because the woman down the road told her blue is a persian colour so shes selling them for £80 each even tho she doesn't know who the dad is..

Well, I think at 5 weeks they should still be with Mom for some of the time, and away from her from some of the time too, which sounds like what is happening. It is better for the babies to be gradually weaned off their mother rather than just taken away.

sorry there are lots and lots of blue cats that are not persian.
Fran had 2 moggy blues and i have a blue ragdoll so mabye you should let her know.

mum should be spending time away from her babies at this age but not to long

British Blue, Russian Blue, Chartreux, Korat and moggys! When I was a child many people called any grey (blue) cat Maltese...I thought it was a breed!

I've got a blue long haired cat. She's not a persian or persian cross.

Yes a lot of breeds can be blue or have blue points along with a lot of moggies and crosses.

My kittens had weaned themselves off mum totally by 6 weeks of age, I didn't have to separate them. Once they were having 6 regular meals a day they stopped going to mum for top ups altogether, but I feel they should still be with mum to learn certain behaviours and social skills which will help them grow into well balanced and friendly cats.

yes they should be spending time away from mum, but it should be up to mum to leave them for five mins, mum should not have to be kept away from them.

never mind, im sure the kitten will be fine when you get him

any pic?

Yes I thought personally if they were my kittens I would just leave them with the mother to learn behaviors and they would just get a taste for the food you are giving them so want that more than the milk.. of course if I have 5 kids I would want time anyway from them if they were stressing me not saying the mum shouldn't be allowed that.. but surely that should be on the mums terms and not the woman taking the kittens away?? she might be missing her babies:( but at least I guess shes going to be used to being away from her mum when I get her..
