I had to go and do a mercy run this morning. One of the vets about 20 miles from Telford had had 3 one day old kittens brought into them. The mum had rejected them, we think because 2 of the kittens had a twisted back leg. So I had to go and collect them and take to one of our fosterers for hand rearing. So fingers crossed and good vibes please for these little ones.

What do you mean by twisted back legs.......................not meaning to sound as heatless as this is but sometimes nature knows best however if they will be able to get about fine and have no trouble "bladder/bowel" wise then I wish them all the best.

One has a twisted leg, where it's paw goes under, kind of like a club foot. the other one has the same but on the front paw (I thought it was the back paw for both of them) The other kitten is perfectly fine. But they will all go to our vets tomorrow to be checked over, and they may be amputated when they are older, but we'll need to wait and see.

Poor little mites! You seem to have had a lot of littlies brought in recently-are they usually hand-reared by nurses? Maybe I could volunteer to do some for our local CP branch?

Hope they are ok.
I have spent all evening ringing round trying to find someone to handrear 5.
All now sorted. Sending good vibes for these babies too.

Always willing.

So would I be Kazz, maybe once I'm back to normal I'll contact our CP branch. I really miss hand-rearing, have raised about 15 kittens in the past.

I did, kind of..... Well, I rang a few people then I got your number up on my phone & as I pressed the green button to dial, my other phone started ringing...it was Pat (Kazz, I must introduce you to Pat) ;) then my mobile was ringing, and it was Helen with a message about a potential home for the babies, then I called them back & it was all systems go.

I would be willing to hand rear too, have done so (successfully!) for 3 kittens in the past.

The kittens feet sound like Sidney's Alex. He was born like that, he has never needed any surgery and adapted very well. It makes him extra special!

That sounds promising Kim, let's hope for these little ones too. So far they are doing well. Very good appetites and feeding well, so a good sign. To answer your question PL, we have had 5 litters already this year that have needed to be hand reared. I don't know whether this is normal or not, but it does seem a lot to me. heaven help us in the next few months!!

Just to let you all know, the little ones didn't make it. They all passed at the end of last week, one after the other. No suffering, just went to sleep and didn't wake up.

RIP little ones xxx

Oh no. What a real shame. Maybe there was some other congentinal defect . . . seeing as all 3 went in such close succession. Very sad.

It is sad, but probably for the best, considering their deformities. I do feel for their fosterer though, but she's been doing it a long time and knows these things happen. At least they went loved and looked after.

That's a comforting thought; too many of then aren't. Made me think of Kazz's Oscar and Cleo just thrown in a bin........:(
