His Nibs caught his first bird today. I take the accusations that he's rubbish at catching birds back. However, he hasn't a clue what to do with them once he's caught them. I watched him changing his grip on the bird, watched the starling get more and more bored and finally managed to convince Rover to give over. The bird was fine, not a scratch and just a few missing feathers. It even perched on my finger for a bit to straighten some of the mussed feathers before flying off in a huff. Rover the soft-mouthed bird-cat. ^^
He's such a flannel softie (but don't tell him I said so, he's still convinced he's the king of the jungle and very dangerous...) :-)

Himself, perched:

And this is about all I see when I let him out...:

Good thing he didn't try to eat the starling - I have read that they taste bad, although I have no idea how the person who wrote the article knew that!

Great pictures of the bird-cat!!!

His "friends" the starlings are now keeping a safe distance. ^^.
Have to keep an eye out in a month or so - some of them are nesting under the panes of the roof. I can hear the chicks. ^^ Shouldn't be too much of a problem, though.

That noise I heard when I first read this post was Sultan up at the bridge tsking! He always did his birds with one bite apparently; whenever I took them away from him (with much difficulty..:-D ) they were as dead as the proverbial doornail.....

It's a shame Rover can't take lessons from Sultan before the bridge. I would have liked to have met him before then as well.

I officially deplored that he was such a good bird catcher for a cat on a harness; but was sort of pleased at the quick way he dispatched them...not very politically correct, I suppose..I rationalized that it was actually a good thing as he was improving the breed by weeding out the dumb ones......

You would have loved Sultan...I do wish you could have known him. Smart, handsome, and attitude to burn!
