I took Fabes to the hospital today for his 6 weekly hypercalceamia checkup and I've had to leave him there.

His calcium levels are now normal but his kidneys aren't functioning and as a result he is severely constipated.

They have also found a significant amount of blood in his urine and he has gone from 4.1 kilos to 3.4 kilos since December.

He will now be on renal food and once I get him home I will have to administer fluids:?

He will having his bloods done again in the morning and if he's ok (and the enema hasn't worked) he will have an op to get rid of the poo.

If his bloods aren't ok then he'll have to stay another night

Please cross everything that I can bring him home tomorrow because he does get stressed out there.

I've spoken to the hospital today and his blood levels are still high so he is to stay in again on fluids and then hopefully they can flush him out tomorrow.

I asked them if he had managed to eat anything and they said no. When I asked what food they gave him - they said wet renal. I specifically told them that he will not eat wet food last night and it should also be on his notes!!

That means my lad hasn't had any food for 24 hours :(

Poor boy! Sorry to hear about the food, it's possible that it was done to try and increase his fluid intake but if you specifically told them he didn't like wet food, he should have been offered it when he didn't eat.

I've just spoken to the vet and he's a lot brighter today and responsive. :)

She wants to do the de-poo op tomorrow and keep him in on fluids until Friday :(

I'll also have a practical hands on lesson on how to give him fluids - aargh!

Elaine - thanks for all your help so far, I'm sure I'll be pestering you a bit more! Vet is going to look into Miralex to see if that will be suitable.

Thanks to everyone for their support, it really helps.

He's had the procedure to depoo him today and he's staying in on fluids. His urea and creatine levels are still not in the normal range so they are going to assess him in the morning to see if he can home :(
