What is the best thing to do for Coopers ear? I take it him and Broxi have been playing a little too rough as the tip of his ear is bleeding. I have given it a quick wash with some warm salt water, but it's still bleeding. What is the best thing to do for him? It's not deep enough to need seeing to by the vet or anything.

If it's just bleeding a little, it should soon clot. I would think bathing with warm salt water is fine, that is what I would do - and just keep an eye to make sure it doesn't get infected. If it is bleeding a lot and not clotting then I think a visit to the vet might be a good idea.

Just make sure you don't keep knocking the scab off as the platelets need to clump around the site of the wound.

Try using warm water mixed with a little bicarbonate of soda. Bicarb is an excellent cleanser and cuts usually heal very quick.

thanks all. It has stopped bleeding now and is drying up, but will keep an eye on it for the next few days.

Alex, I think bathing with cooled, boiled salted water is fine, what I would do too. I have a veterinary antiseptic spray that I keep in the pet first-aid kit, if you have some, a squirt wont do any harm.
