Last night Tilly was sick so I picked up her food and this morning her food came straight back up again so I took her the vets as she has got Inflamatory Bowels Disease which makes her sick if she isn't fed d/d or sensitivity food which is what she was fed.
Anyway the vet think it is furballs/worms which made her sick and gave her a wormer which went on the back of her neck so as to not agrivate her tummy and and anti vomiting injection. She has also got some good bacteria powder to help her out.

During my chat with the vet she dropped into the conversation that it was right for me to bring her down as she has got FIV. I replied she hasn't got FIV she is a feline herpes virus carrer. The vet then check the note as it says on the note from the specialist that Tilly has tested positive for FIV:shock: :shock: :shock: :shock: . No one told me she has it and the vet is going to check but it definately said on the note that Tilly has got Feline herpes virus AND FIV. I am in shock at the moment as I can't work out whether it has just been typed wrong and why I wasn't told earlier:cry: :cry: :cry: . Anyway life sucks at the moment as she is my baby and has got tons of thing wrong with her that can't be fixed:( :( :( . She looks quite bright at the moment and I hope she will be with me for many years yet. But I can't help but worry about her.

Why can't I have a healthy cat.

Buster has got ashma and Tilly has got fatty lumps everywhere, Feline Herpes Virus and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and Inflamatory Bowel disease.

Oh and as it is transfered but saliva and they share water bowls and clean each other if Tilly has it Buster probably does as well. As they are Litter mates and it must have come from their mum.

I do know that cat can live quite happily with FIV but she didn't need any other problem she had enough as it was.

So oh go*d and here hoping it was typed wrong and she isn't sick again.

Sally - I'm so sorry this has been dumped on you. Please try not to worry until you know for sure. I have a cat with masses of fatty lumps, which she's had since almost kittenhood and she's none the worst for wear for them - really, the vets say that I need not concern myself.

As for the FIV, yes if it is FIV it IS more serious, but it's not terminal and it's by no means certain it will transfer to your other cats. You're correct in saying it's transferred by saliva, but only direct saliva to blood contact. So if Tilly would bite another of your cats then there is a risk. It can't transfer indirectly - i.e., cat licks bowl, another cat licks bowl and catches it.

I had an FIV cat for 2 1/2 years before he died (before his time), and my other 2 have continued completely unaffected by his FIV. They shared food and water bowls and litter trays too. He was completely non-agressive so never bit the others.

Take care and try not to worry too much. Just think, someone else might panic and just dump their cat if they thought they were unwell - at least both Buster and Tilly are loved and cared for by someone like you who is trying to understand their ailments and help them.

So sorry Tilly that the cats are in poor health. Your vet should have told you what they were testing for and i personally would have insisted that the test was sent to Glasgow due to the numbers of false possitives through the elissa test.

Sally, you really don't have much luck do you. :(

Hopefully it is just a misunderstanding from the vets & that she doesn't have FIV after all.... but hey, if she does, so be it! It's really not the end of the world. Please keep us posted. :)

What an awful shock :( Fingers crossed it was a misunderstanding or a false positive!

Hope Tilly is feeling better now and can eat without it revisiting, sending healing vibes just in case :)

Hi thanks for all your kind messages.
Tilly seems to be doing OK and kept her chicken down last night and has perked up so I hope it was just furballs but I am going to keep her on chicken for the next few days anyway to let her tummy settle. She has just had breakie so we will see if that stay down too.She is not to impressed by the fact that some of last night chcken had proboitic power on it. But this morning I managed to get some into her by dipping it on to one end of the bit of chicken and tunring it round. So she couldn'y smell it and she is being hadn fed as she hsan't got many teeth and finds eating chicken a bit tricky becasue it keeps falling out of her mouth. So I have to pput it in her mouth so she can eat it.


I hope to find out on Monday about her FIV but till then I am trying to stay positve.

In the mean time Tilly is getting very spoilt.

Poor Tilly and you, It must have been a shock. Hopefully it is just an error but if not you will get through this as will Tilly.
You say Tilly has IBS. Has she had test to see what makes it worse? I just wondered as the biggest allergy, food wise, for a cat is in fact chicken and this could make her IBS worse. My friend has a girl with this problem and chicken worsens hers considerably. Even dry food that contains chicken. She goes on one of the yahoo groups which is purely dedicated to cats with IBS and has found it very helpful.

The vets have checked and it doesn't say that Tilly has got FIV. It was written down wrong but as Tilly has never been tested she and Buster are going to have a blood test done on monday when they go in for a dental check up and it is going to be sent to Glasgow so I can find out once and for all if either has FIV or Feline leukemia (sp)

So hopefully they will both be clean. But as they came from a feral colony it seems a good idea to check them out.
