Liz Dawn makes her final appearance in Coronation Street this evening after playing the part of Vera Duckworth for over 30 years.

She and her screen husband Jack have brought a lot of humour to the 'Street' over the years and I'm sure she will be sadly missed by many. To have Jack there without his Vera will be strange as they made a brilliant double act together.

Liz is retiring because she suffers from chronic lung disease.

The 'Street' won't be the same without her...:(

Good wishes to Liz for the future...

Certainly is very sad. It's the end of an era, just like it was when Stan and Hilda went :(

Yes, best wishes to Liz for her future

I'm prepared already for this evening with my big box of kleenex as I am sure its bound to be a severe tear jearker :(

A big thanks to Liz for her years of entertainment as Vera and best wishes to her for the future.

I have a feeling it will be genuine tears from her screen husband Jack ......... what a partnership those two made!:(

Who will own up to a tear in their eye or a lump in their throat?

I watched in and sat here in tears...honestly.

I think it was done well, Jack putting her slipper back on and brushing her hair was just about the right touch.

Just spoken to myMom who is heartbroken she has always watched Corrie, my Nan did too its the end of an era my Mom says, and very well done like when Stan died and Hilda held his glasses.

I agree Kazz, there were some lovely touches there that made it so personal, you could almost believe they were a real man and wife...... and as you mentioned, Jack brushing Vera's hair and making sure her slipper was back on properly ........ so sweet!:(

I was a little disappointed tbh. Just thought it was a bit of an anti-climax after all the hype :?

I havent seen Corrie in many months but made the effort tonight. I agree with Fran, wasnt much of a send off for one of the longest actors in the show, a bit drab!

TBH I think you needed to have seen or followed the last couple of months of Corrie to have really understood tonight ...... she died very happy. Unlike other serials or soaps when the person leaving has a fatal accident

I was sitting with tears dripping down my cheeks, and when he covered her with his coat, well that was me away lol

Oh no, I think it was brilliantlydone, nothing grand not a mugging, a fire, bus crash or a train coming off the tracks she died as lots of people die in their own home.

I thought it was brilliantly done.

Is Vera dead?

I don't watch it, but what happened? How did she pop her cloggs?

she quietly slipped away while sitting in her chair while Jack was in the Rovers for a pint. A lovely dignified ending for a much loved character. It was the lovely way in which 'Jack' played his role that was so touching.

I think it was really extremely well done and so dignified. Much better than her getting murdered by her grandson, which was 1 theory I heard. Jack's performance was excellent, so touching - well done Corrie!!! The only downside for me was that the paramedics said she had died from a heart attack, paramedics could not and would never say this, this is up to the coroners to determine. Okay, I know it isn't real life, but these little things make it more realistic.

I watched Vera's final night on the show and I thought it was so sad. It will be strange having just Jack and no Vera! ;)

I caught up with it on itv.com's online catch up thing. Made me cry and I thought it was really well done. She went happy and peaceful after a great day, can't ask for more than that can you?

Jack's performance after was really sweet too.

I imagine they were but not Jack's tears but Bill Tarmeys the chap who play Jack, tears as he has in effect lost his other half.
