View Full Version : Bliss' babies...

Fran

Well, Bliss has been a busy girl during the night. 1st baby put in an appearance at midnight and baby number 6 arrive just 1 and a 1/2 hours later. Sadly, one of the babies (an orienatal tortie baby) did not make it and died shortly after birth. The other 5 seem to be doing well and feeding fine. Bliss is being a lovely mummy and is very proud of her brood :-)

Here's what she has..

2 Oriental red boys
1 blue Oriental boy
2 Siamese (colours to be determined) and I think that both these are boys too, although the sex change fairy could visit :-D

Here's a few early piccies..

Well I haveto say thoose two reds looks stunning I think though I am "ginger" obsessive due to past friendships. But the blue looks lovely too. Okay please explain whats the difference between an oriental and a siamese and how do you get two "different" breeds so to speak in the same litter. Cat breeding is so complex I think I have sussed the colours then another breed pops up.... :)

Five boys eh...... and a happy Mom by the looks of it glad she is well.

Karen
So she has five boys eh....

Fran
03-11-2007, 12:03 PM
Thanks both :D

Kazz, the two reds are definitely boys, I couldn't get red girls out of this mating. I'm almost sure the blue is a boy, I'm not so sure on the Siamese but I definitely think one is a boy.

Siamese and Orientals are the same breed. Orientals are solid coloured Siamese, i.e. they don't have coloured 'points' and they have green eyes whereas Siamese have blue eyes. Both parents of this mating are Oriental but both of them carry the Siamese gene, so that's how we have got Siamese in the litter. Oriental, unlike Siamese isn't a carrying gene, so inorder to get Orientals in a litter at least one parent has to be Oriental. *phew* bet that's as clear as mud  :-D

Kazz

Ha yes clear as mud.... .....you have to be a
Mathematician and geneticist to suss this cat breeding out don't you.

What a lovely cute litter, Fran! Is 5 quite a large number for an Oriental? And thanks for your explanation of the difference between Orientals and Siamese. I knew none of that ( to be honest I thought Oriental just meant some vague Eastern-type cat, didn't realise it was a breed name  oops, how thick am I?)

Congratulations Bliss and Fran, they are so cute :)

Thank you MrsH :D Yes, 5/6 is average for Siamese/Orientals. It isn't unheard of that they have litters of 7/8

Had to laugh at your explanation of what your concept of an Oriental cat was!!

Glad you didn't take offence Fran, after I'd posted I thought it actually sounded rather rude as well as ignorant! In my defence I can only say that I've only ever had moggies!

You were not rude or ignorant at all MrsH, Orientals are not as well known as Siamese, there are lots of people who have not heard of the breed let alone realise that they are the same breed as Siamese and can be born in the same litter :D

Mrs H join me in the thickness stakes, I thought that Oriental was a "type" like you that lumped together Siamese, Burmese etc. But its no good being shy of being thick - SHOUT it from the rooftops like me.:-D

The Siamese will be reds, apricots or creams Charlie  The Orientals are quite pale for reds at the minute, they may possibly turn out to be apricots. Watch this space ;)
