I would just like to make this clear, this isn't a debate thread & I would appreciate if it wasn't turned into one. This is merely for those who wanted to see Bella's kittens; not another arguing point. And my apologies to whomever these photos may offend.

At about quarter past ten pm, on August the 14th Bella went into labour, she had a pretty average birthing and delivered her last kitten at ten to one on the morning of August 15th. She delivered four beautiful babies, in order;A tortie/tabby & white, a white & ginger, a tabby/tortie & white and a ginger tabby. Only a slight hitch, but otherwise a perfect birth. She knew instantly that it was her job as ummy to sort them out. All kittens are doing well, I think we have three girls [the tabby tortie and the white n ginger] and one boy [the ginger], although I'm not positive.
They area day n a bit old now and really doing well, eating well and I think they have already grown!
Bella is doing ever so well, I thought she may get a bit 'all over the place', but she's taken too it like a pro. She's really taken to motherhood and will only leave the nestbox for food IF someone is sat there watching the babies.
Again, my apologies to whomever this may offend. I shall keep the thread up to date with photographs and videos as the kittens grow. There were nine people who offered homes and as at least one, possibly a pair, will stay with us, it goes that they are definatley kittens who at the end of this will have good lifelong homes.
The Happy Family.

Thankyou Both:)
It's strange how they have their own little purrsonalities..the big gigner is very quiet and just eats, and will not be budged by the others for anything, he's also ALWAYS near his Ma. The little white & ginger is troublesome and always wanders around the box and makes lots of noise, and the two tortie tabbies just paw everyone else out the way at feeding time, greedyguts!
They have grown already...scary really

Thankyou All:) Kittens are squeaking away atm as their Ma subjects them to cleaning time.
The ginger will be staying with us, The tabby & white is going to a friend who's just lost their family moggy to old age, the tortie/tabby n white will be going to another friend..and there are three people we are choosing between as who would make best for the little white and ginger.
I think on closer inspection we have two of each sex, the boys being the ginger n the white n ginger, and the girls being the tabby/torties.

Thankyou All:) The vet said when we were discussing the kittens n such how he thought it would be a good idea to let the dogs have a look at the kittens, as he's been to the house and knows how doggy orientated Bella is. So we brought the dogs up one at a time and made them stay as they peered over the top of the box, Bella actually clambered out to give them a good washing as she hasn't seen them in a few days..and it was all very sweet, and she climbed back into the box and settled down to feed..the dogs had a look, and a voluntary sniff and she just kept licking Ralphs' head everytime he sniffed them..and actually pushed one too his nose. Florrie being the lemon she is had to poke her head through the hole in the box..to which she had a kitten nudged at her..Bella then lay in the box feeding babies but with head out cleaning Florrie's face:roll: only in our house!

If you weigh them everyday Luke you will see in proof how fast they do grow! It is amazing. Bagsy the tortie, i've always longed for a wee tortie.

I tried to find the kitchen scales but have no Idea where they've gone, may have to nip to grans tomorrows n borrow some:) The two tabby torties [although one is more or less a tabby but with scant ginger markings] and the white n ginger are roughly the same size, but the ginger one..jeesh, its like godzilla compared too them! I only ever see him suckling and nothing else!

|This is a question for those with dogs, i'm a bit cautious of Ralph with the babies. Florrie is fine and gone into nanny mode and keeps just lying with her head in the box watching and licking Bella. But with Ralph it's different, obviously withhim being an adolescant himself still he's not..I can't explain what I mean, but he just has to sniff and sniff and wants to get IN the box but being quite a big lad this isn't gonna happen, so would you say just keep bringing him up for regular 'kitten visiting time'and just watching how it goes?
Im more worried about Clementine who upon seeing the new arrivals puffed herself up and strode off hissing:roll:

Fran

TBH, I don't introduce the dogs to my kittens quite so early on, mainly because Maddie would want to steal them as her own  I think it's a case of play it by ear. I wouldn't let the dogs or Clementine be unsupervised around them though. Clem will probably get used to them in time but I wouldn't force the issue...

Florrie sounds a bit like maddie:roll: She just got obsessed by these little things, I think the other two were a bit scared tbh! No unsupervised'ness for a long time yet though, just for the fact with the dogs I know they are clumsy toads at times.

Well Luke Maddy was a mental case with them. She just thought "Oh yes! More little kitty playmates!", and she could have easily stomped on one or swiped at one, not on purpose but just in play. What I did was bring her in a couple of times a day, or take out a kitten and let her have a sniff, but then it was safe in my hands. And I just did that untill they were older and able to 'leg it' if they wanted, (about 6 weeks) then I introduced them as you will have introduced Bella to Ralph in the first place. By this time the kittens are well used to the dogs anyway and the dogs don't bother so much as they are also used to the kittens.

What you do want to be careful in, is over-doing it and having an adverse affect on the kittens and having them end up hating dogs for life. I found it best to get them used to the scent of the dogs while they cannot see, then when they can see they aren't as scared of what it is they have been sniffing the past 2 weeks.

They certainly have grown Luke!!!! I love those tortie girlies  So you are keeping the big ginger tom then?!

Luke
19-08-2007, 12:37 PM
Yes:) maxwell will stay here with us. We were to keep a pair originally, however the three people we've agreed will take the other kittens [down from nine may i add!]are people who we know very VERY well, and we know they will be looked after, well cared for and implicitly loved for the rest of their days..hence why we only decided to keep the one. And it was easy to choose who would stay as that little chap was last born, came out a bit funny and I had to break free from the placenta as Bella, by this point, was very VERY tired. Theres a connection there I feel, and as I helped his ma into the world..and thats what sealed the deal with her to come home with us, it seemed only fitting.

Luke

Thankyou for your kind comments.
A bit of a write up update rather than pictures as we've seen a fair few!
Bella is doing well, she's really taking to motherhood well..and she insists on everyone knowing she has babies, in the nicest possible way.
Kittenwise...their characters are developing really quickly, big ginger Maxwell is a silly soul..who just wants to be near ma & milkbar, he is by far the largest andquietest.
The little ginger and white boy, so called Dexter at the moment, is a charming we soul. I have a big soft spot for him [will explain below]. He's a sweetie...he was by far the smallest but has caught up a fair bit and is waddling around the box ever so much now. Independent soul!
Little tabby girl, Twix or Cinnamon as she is to be called, she's 2nd largest after Maxwell and a hissyfit girl, always can hear her squeaking from the box.
Little unamed tortie/tabby n white girl [the one who everyone wants!] is a bully, she climbs on the rest and is forever causing Bella's heart to skip a beat by dissapearing down her back or underneath her at feeding times.

We had a good chat with the prospective owners this evening,Cinnamon/twix is definatley going to the family friends, no question. Maxwell is definately staying with us.
And then there are the other two..suitable homes lined up, and despite what I said earlier I think the little tortie/tabby girl will be going to my best friends family, as they really REALLY do want her. But I think...just for the fact I'm a ginger fiend, and they are never apart in the box that 'Dexter' [see, I couldn't help but name him..definately a sign], that the little white n ginge may stay aswell. We discussed it and a pair of kittens would be nice for company for each other, and the boys have really captured our hearts already. The neighbours/friends of ours who were interested in him have said they do not mind if we choose to keep him [they will go to the local RSPCA shelter] but have said if however we do see that it would be for the best he went off to a new home like his sisters, they will take him with open arms.
Irrespective about homes really, only five days old..but the main thing is whichever homes the kits go too, they will be lifelong and well loved.

Houselife wise....it's still very much hustle n bustle n mayhem as usual.:) Clementine is not impressed, but she never has been when we've brought new babies in..so to have four in 'her' house is bound to be a bit of a shock. She will come round eventually, her nose just gets pushed out of joint easily.
The dogs however, think they are great! Florrie has retired from normal life to spend all day sleeping just a little way from the box..making regular 'nosey' trips to make sure it's business as usual in there. Its nice really, as when Bella comes out for a bit of 'ma time' she has someone to keep her company bar humans.
Ralph just is a whimp, he gets to have a look every now n then.and a sniff, n hes great...strangely calm, yet as soon as the kits sniff him or make any noise he RUNS, literally, and hides somewhere until the big bad babies have gone from view:roll:
They've taken it better than I expcted.

The kittens are steadily gaining weight and condition, all VERY large and fat babies. It would seem 'Maxwell' has a chance of being a longhair/semi longhair..as his coat is substantially thicker than all the others.
So generally all doing good and growing, not paying all too much attention to which homes they will be going too when older though...things happen so must focus on making sure they are all okay:)

Now Now BEHAVE ladies:lol:
The dogs met the kits for the first time since their eyes being open last night:) They were both very good and the even ended up in Ralph lying there have all four kittens wobbling around over his front legs.
Growing again, its really quite scary, can't wait for them to be raising hell and tearing about the place soon!:)

Bella's babies are gorgeous just like their mummy!

I cannot believe how much I have missed on these forums! It only seems like yesterday that Bella was a little kitty herself. Luke, you must be so proud of her?! :)

So its bonvoyage to the cardboard next box which has frankly seen, and smelt!, better days. Kittens are no in a roomy plastic bed with lots of bedding, still staying upstairs in the bedroom.
We figure when they are more active will be when they are to go into the hustle bustle of the house. We have been considering building a kitten pen, do you think it would be wise?
And also, Clementine has finally accepted that the little fluffy things will not do her any harm..she was actually lying in with them this morning when Bella was downstairs with the dogs.

As we treat the threads in the this section as people's personal pages, this thread is only for those interested in the progress of the kittens - the debate has been done to death in another thread.

I will also be bringing in a new rule for this section, where the OP may request any of the comments they don't want in their personal page, to be deleted from their threads in this section so long as they don't answer or reply to the post themselves.

Now, only post if its in regards to the kittens progress please.
The kittens are three weeks on tuesday, and maturing ever so much. They waddle around now..and have a big dog crate converted into a temp kitten pen..so can "escape" in there and not have me having a heart attack
Dexter has had a name change, William. I find it suits him much more. The new owners of the girls have been too see them now and are totally smitten.
A lot of photographs, sorry.

Thankyou both, they really are coming on in leaps and bounds. They are very 'well adjusted' kittens already, in the sense nothing seems to phase them at all, not even a lumbering English Springer trying to wash them:roll:
Bella is doing really well as a mum, she likes to go off downstairs n to nap with the dogs and Clem when the babies are sleeping though, but she's coping a lot better than I thought she would.
Kittens all snoozing now after rolling around on the floor and getting stuck in a giant pom-pom they were meekly attempting to kill:)
