Hmm we have got little Ellie home, aww she is sooo cute and affectionate.. BUT I am not entirely convinced that it is a girl, although I have never sexed kittens before.

She is 16 weeks (approx) and seems to have a swollen area (testicles?) which I can only assume means it's boy.. but the RSPCA said it's a girl.. bit confused.. can anyone help????

So sorry if this sounds really daft, I just really need to know so I can name the kitten appropriately

Congratulations on bringing Ellie home!! :D or is that Elliot :? :-D

Generally, the space between the two holes is much further apart in males and closer in females. Some females can have little 'puffy' bits which could confuse. We've had a thread on here before about sexing kittens, I'll see if I can find it for you as there's some piccies to help you decide...

Oh that would be great thanks Fran.. you see I have read that with a male the backside looks more like : whereas with a girl it looks more like ; which is definitely what Ellie (?) looks like.. but it's the puffy bits that are confusing me, they definitely look like testicles  I wonder how much the vet would charge to tell me for sure :-/

I've posted you a link above to a previous thread. Regarding the vet, most vets offer a free kitten check, give your vets a ring and see if they offer this service and they'll be able to tell you during the check ;) If you want to take some piccies and post them on here, I'm sure we'll try and help you decide

Yeh sorry about that   I also am very sure it's a boy.. how on earth can the RSPCA get it wrong?! When we got Thomas 8 years ago "Ellie" went in to be spayed but came back neutered  , so explains the name change to "Thomas"!

Gaaaah I already have a housefull of boys, I was soo hoping to have a little girl.. ah well too late now I am already in love hehe.. it'll have to be a girl next time ;) (if and when hubby ever allows it!!)

Well lots of people say that tom cats are more affectionate don't they.. but I really wanted a female as I thought it would be easier on my current male cat.. ah well time will tell I guess!

Thanks guys, I knew I could rely on you lot to know the difference!

And so we now have "Scrabble" haha!!

I do actually despise the RSPCA, they are a shambles, but not knowing a male cat from a female? And he's not even a confusing one or a fluffy bum. :?

A few years back a cousin of mine rehomed a spayed bitch from the RSPCA, she was a staffy cross but really chunky, so they had put her on a limited 'special' diet. Just over a week later she gave birth to 8 pups!
