Well Eileen - here it is - the first tomato! :) Can you smell it? Wonderful.
I just managed to pick this lot before it started spitting with rain and I had to run back home to get the washing in.
Enjoy - raspberries, boysenberries, few strawberries (the rain is playing havoc with them :( ), daily cucumber and (drum roll ................) the first tomato

I am sooo envious DM! That looks wonderful. When OH gets back from Scotland I am seriously going to have to nip his ear about getting the back of the garden sorted and getting the greenhouse finished so I can start growing things! Well done you and enjoy!

Yes do it Alex! A glass greenhouse if Freecycle comes up trumps, or the plastic ones are pretty good. And raspberries will grow against a fence/hedge.

...... and my kitchen smells wonderful! Ah, that tomato! :)

Oh I've got the greenhouse, it was given to us by my next door neighbour LAST summer, and it is still only half built! Men!! lol! I have a little blackcurrant bush with a couple of pices of fruit on it which I'm rather surprised about as I bought it from Focus at the very end of last summer and it was almost dead so I'm rather pleased that it has survived and is now showing fruit, not quite enough for jam though lol!

DM, thanks for posting that! I am green with envy,,,I can almost taste it now, lucky you! One of mine is showing very faint coloring; will post a pic this afternoon. You've had a nice harvest today! Is that one of the Super Marmandes?

I'd love to have a greenhouse, even one of the plastic ones, but my small city yard hasn't enough room!

No, that's a Moneymaker, growing in the polytunnel. I've only the one MM plant which I usually plant for the early crop. Have Big Boy and SunBelle in the tunnel, doing nicely but not ready for a couple of weeks and Super Marmande and SunBelle shivering outside. I'm telling myself they are making good root growth ready for when summer comes, cos they sure as heck aren't bothering with top growth/flowers/that sort of thing :?

What about one of these Eileen? Can fit right up against a wall and doesn't take up a lot of room. I've seen these on balconies round my area.

Yes - treat yourself Eileen!
(It could also be a winter shelter for Onyx if she hasn't come indoors by then)

Great link, Alex; I like the Lean-To one! Must think about this; I'm no good whatsoever at DIY but one of my chums is (he assembled Leia's cat tree, re which, incidentially , she still refuses to use the top bowl! Only the cradle part! Cats!!!)

Awww, too bad! But your flower garden is lovely! When the greenhouse is up you can start some early in it next year. Mine are large and have turned from dark to light green with just a hint of color now....maybe by 4th of July?! I cannot wait.......

That's a shame, Mags, after you all had such a lovely warm spell, thought that would hurry them along, but now with all that wretched rain...oh well you'll probably be picking yours when ours are mostly eaten and over...he who laughs last....

And we won't have any! I will not buy store tomatoes when the local produce is gone...they look like tomatoes, but tasteless...

Same here...... the only tomatoes that seem to have some taste are the Italian ones which you rarely see in the shops.....they only appear to sell Spanish an Dutch ones until the English ones appear....:?

We get them from Florida and Mexico. Tasteless! The small grape and cherry ones have a bit of flavor; will use them in salad. We do get some Israeli ones in the market called vine-on, but they're as bad as the others...
