3 little kittens have been caged, and they are NOT happy about it:? . Lots of squealing and clawing trying to get out. Mum isn't in with them as I asked the boss what she thought. She said to leave her out but if she gets upset and wants them to pop her in, but she doesn't seem that bothered to be honest lol! I feel so mean, but my carpet is saturated with kitten wee and I'm just not having that, so until all 3 can use the tray all the time, they will have to stay there!

Now that the kittens are caged Alex, they should soon learn to use the litter tray. No way could you carry on like you were with saturated carpets all the time.

They are probably crying for their mum......I take it you will be putting mum in with them for the night?

Just popped mum in Mags lol! She was sitting crying in front of the cage just now. Was considering putting them back into the shed, but with all the rain it will be quite damp in there, plus it wont help with their socialisation!! Decisions, decisions!!

There is a lot more involved in fostering than you imagine, isn't there Alex!:D There is nothing worse than hearing little kittens pitifully crying....awwww:D

I get a pen/run after 6 months Karen, to make sure I'm going to stick with it!!
Yes Mags, there is a lot to fostering lol! I'm sure they'll settle down (in an hour or two)!!!!

Well that seems a long while to me I wonder if they would keep more people if they did not have sopping wet carpets...but imagine its the cost. :( will you keep it up do you think -

How old are the kittens now Alex?

I have never fostered in-house (with the exception of Matilda & her kittens & Midnight & Cara for a few weeks)

My pens were with me within a short time of me contacting CP.

That what I thought Smudgley...almost like a trial by fire I bet they loose a fair few people making them foster indoors.

They'll be 7 weeks on friday Smudgley.

As far as I know it's to do with cost and a few bad experiencs. One lady decided she wanted to foster and had a pen delivered then changed her mind so it got moved to someone else who also decided they didnt want to do it anymore. this was before a single cat had been in residence!!

Yes Kazz - for some people (including me) in house fostering is not an option (ok, there were a couple of exceptions) Therefore an outdoor pen is what I requested.

I know a branch very close to us here, wouldn't let a lady I know foster for them because she wanted an outdoor pen & they said they hadn't got the funds.... She is now fostering for our branch instead. :-D (with an outdoor pen)

Dumb question ... I've never had a mum cat with kittens ....I thought the mum trained them to use the litter box...... am I wrong? Or are these just too young to have learned yet?

I thought mum automatically taught them too Eileen lol, guess we were wrong. i've seen two of them using the tray, but Edmund is the one that seems to be doing it under the table!!

Oh. Boy cats!!! Dandy missed the part about covering when his mum taught him...he always used the box, but just make a careless swipe in the general direction of the poo, and hopped out of the box. It was hysterical to see my Misty...she would look at it, look at me with an expression that just said "Men!!!!", and proceed to cover it! I still laugh remembering my fastidious little Misty and her horror at uncovered poo! :-D (I would just leave it there instead of scooping because I loved watching her!)

But Kazz, you had to be there...it was a case of female bonding, us commiserating about men...the look on her face was just so funny......

Alex I'm sorry to hear your having trouble with the kittens peeing.
If your carpet is really bad why not hit your house insurance?
I hope your pen gets there sooner rather that later. Did the vinigar solution not work? Sorry been away quite a bit may have missed something.

The carpets not that bad jac, and I put down the vinegar solution last night, doing the second part tonight, but it has made an improvement. I can walk into the dining room without gagging lol!
