Well caroline that's the question. Ive gone for a Rag Doll. He's only 7 weeks at the moment. They may be the breed for you.
Forgot to add, not a breed that like to be alone all day. So if you work possibly not

Hi Caroline
I have to agree with Jac. The ragdolls are very laid back and literally flop in your arms hence their names Ragdolls.
They have a fantastic temperament and are absolutely gorgeous.
Take a look on www.tbrcc.co.uk it will give you all the information you need to know about them ;)
I also have to vouch for the BSH they too are very cuddly.

I think most cats can be it just depends how they have been socialised as kittens and how much time you spend with them at a very early age.

good luck in your quest for a kittie

I have a ragdoll too and she is very affectionate and cuddly - but then so are the others. I think it depends on the personality of the cat and them being used to being handled and socialised from a young age.

My dad has a ginger moggy and he is just the most affectionate lap cat going!!! They are inseperable!!!

I have Orientals, Siamese and moggies. All of them are cuddly lap cats, however, the Orientals and Siamese are not layed back and are very highly strung  :-D The most layed back, cuddly lap cat I have is my moggie - Clooney

My previous ginger moggy Sam was a real cuddlebug, he used to purr and dribble and go doe-eyed all the time on my lap :smt007

My Broxi (moggy) is a very affectionate cat, he loves his pets and cuddles and loves to be carried around the house on my OH's shoulders lol. My other moggy Cooper is very aloof and only comes for a cuddle occasionally. Teddie my exotic shorthair loves to be a lap cat, when SHE wants to be lol!

True!!!! lol, poor Ceilidh and Teddie. All Ceilidh wanted to do was love her and all Teddie wanted to do was get as far away from her as possible (unless she was offering a ham sandwich!!!)

Caroline, I really do think it depends on the cat's basic temperament and how well she/he has been socialized as a kitten. I know that Ragdolls are noted for this; also a breed that isn't very common and that you may never have heard of...the Singapura. I had a Singapura boy and he was the friendliest and most sociable cat of the seven I've had in my life: both moggies and purebreeds. One of the Singapura sites refers to them as "pesky people cats"! They just love people!

I think Persians are the most laid back breed there is. So laid back they are quite thick, but very beautiful. Having said that you do get the odd Persian that is aloof but not very often. I do believe it comes down to how much interaction they have as young kittens with the breeder.
