The Margay Cat (Caucel) is smaller than the ocelot and spends most of his life on trees. It is the most accomplished climber of these wild cats because its ankle joints permit to rotate its foot through 180 degrees and it moves around treetops with the ease of a squirrel.
And I think this one is an Ocelot - which I'd love equally as much!

Exquisite creatures - but I wouldn't like one sleeping on my feet!
OMG they are absolutely stunning :smt007 :smt007 :smt007 :smt007
WOW just look at thoes markings!!!!
Dont blame you for wanting one!!!!
Not for me I say leave the wild in the wild.
Or in the hands of people who treat them as wild animals not pets, I understand we need to preserve and protect and breeding groups are needed but leave them alone. My Personal opinion.:)
Gorgeous breath taking markings I agree but what the good of beautiful packaging if the life is confined. :(
Give me a moggy any day markings just as stunning.

I've never heard of the Margay cat (Caucel) but have to agree it is a stunning animal! Those markings are so clear, making it a very attractive cat..:D
I think this pic is superb :D....... that's what I call relaxing with a capital R...:-D

Wow - I love big cats.
I would love to hand rear a big cat from newborn & keep it as a pet, that would be a dream come true!
Imagine the size of the litter tray though
Thought you'd like the pics all (just not as much as Yola did ).
I'd only ever keep one if the house was in the middle of nowhere, somewhere warm and perhaps with enclosed grounds so that cat could have the freedom that nature intended but still be able to find 'home' :) I'd love to domestise it and keep it as a pet but kind of strike a balance.
Yep it's selfish, but, on the other hand, big cats kept in captivity live almost twice as long as they do in the wild.
While the markings are beautiful, I think I like their 'size' :) they don't seem as fragile as our moggys  poor Cheetah runs a mile when Rocky get's excited - don't blame her tho, he has no sense of his size and weight
They also seem quite sociable, and some big <small> cats actually live in packs (so are similar to dogs in that sense, and more easily trainable) I think Servals are one example. In fact I read that they were almost chosen over dogs, a long long time ago. Just imagine that, instead of all the dogs we have today we'd have variants of Servals :p
I had to look up Servals as I wasn't sure what they were like........... here's a pic of one if there are others not sure.....

Stunning pics, Az, thanks so much for sharing them! I've always adored the margay, it has such incredible markings! But I do agree that wild cats belong in the wild; you can never really domesticate one. Anyone interested in this might try to find a book called Wild Cats of the World by C.A.W. Guggisberg, published in 1975...stunning pics of more cats, big and small, than I'd ever heard of! There's a pic of the Pallas cat in that that I love...such a grumpy face! I'll see if I can find a pic... oh, and hugs to Cheetah (pics...hint, hint!) :-D

I thought the guy in the blue shirt was Az:lol:
Sorry its been a long day.
Beautiful pictures.
Question, is the meercat actually a relative of the cat?

I think the meerkat is a member of the mongoose family Elaine....:?
