Be carefull when putting cash and cheques into the bank everyone.
I deposited money yesterday along with a cheque. Because the money went in with the chequw it's regaurded as a cheque and doesn't clear for three days!!! What nonsence! Because of that I went over drawn and charged £30 flippin quid. I'm going in first thing tomorrow, God I'm fizzing.
How can they wait 3 days for cash to "clear"?

Im with Natwest and when my mum paid in a cheque for me she also put money in too. The money cleared straight away. Maybe different banks have different methods of madness?! ;)

In future make two separate deposits so they have different transaction numbers (not that you should have to do that!)

Hehe watch this space........................................ Ive calmed down now but what a cheek, I'm going to love there explenation of how it takes 3 days for cash to clear.

Remember I worked in the Bank (a few years ago) I know for a fact too that it doesn't take 3 days for a cheque to clear only they have never told the "public" that either.

Jac

WHAT!! That's outrageouse (sp) It actually only takes one full working day. Unless it's an English cheque going into a Scotish Bank or the other way round.

How did things go at the bank Jac?

Jac
04-05-2007, 01:46 PM
Well I went in, asked to see the manager... he was busy.. Ok I'll wait. Can I help you madam, Yes dont call me madam again. Supervisor came over "is there a problem" Yes you stole £30 from my bank account:lol: . It's one of thoes open plan ones so everyone could hear me. Oh I'm sorry we dont steal money from peoples accounts do you want to go into an office, me no not now we'll do it here.
I explained how my money had to wait 3 days to clear. It's standard policy when putting cash in with cheques!!!!! Well I let rip.
£30 charge back in my account, an appology and one very red faced young supervisor.

So if anyone else is with Lloyds TSB be very carefull and dont put cash in with cheques although they are ment to tell you at the time.

We used to be with TSB & liked them until they merged & one day when I had a statement & went through it (as I used to each month) & I found there was £20 taken via DD from my account for a company I'd never heard of. I asked what it was for & they said "it's probably fuel or something"
I said it wasn't fuel & it was an error as I had checked everything & that £20 was an error.

They said I could log a complaint & have an investigation which would cost me (?) {can't remember how much} & if I was right I'd get it back, if I was wrong I wouldn't!

I was so sure it was a bank error I asked for it to be investigated. About a month later into my account sneaked the lost £20! No letter, no phonecall, no apology! I asked for an answer & was told it was an error & I was right!

We left them & joined HSBC immediately. all our accounts were moved & when our fixed term on the mortgage rates was up we moved our mortgage too.So that little lack of customer service cost them big time through loosing our mortgage with them! :-D

Donna as I said I worked in the bank years ago now. You would'nt beleive some of the stuff that goes on. Honestly it's frightening.
Did you know if you leave an account untouched for 3 years the bank can close it and keep the money?

Sweet

whenever I go to my bank and put in money and cheques they always remind me to do it in seperate transactions - its totally crazy - but at least they remind me
