Erin - I've started a new thread here as I thought people might miss it in the daily.

How is he? What did the vet say?

Erin
22-04-2007, 11:04 AM
thanks smudgley,
jerrys a poorly boy :(
he has a temperature the vet said it was quite high for a cat 43.5,he thinks jerry may have an infection somewhere,my poor boy has had 2 injections and we have a course of anti-inflammatories and antibiotics,it going to be fun trying to get him to take 3 tablets a day when we struggle with him with 1 worming tablet :(
he has to go back tomorrow to have his temperature checked again,my poor baby, hes sleeping on the floor bless him,he wont settle on the bed :(

smudgley
22-04-2007, 11:08 AM
Oh no.
Erin that can't be right. Are you sure the vet said 43.5?

Erin
22-04-2007, 11:11 AM
yeah thats what it said i the thermometer he said it was high, thats what the injections were for i think he said if it hasnt come down by tomorrow then they will keep him in for x-rays :( .

Poor Jerry, that is a high temperature :(

I hope the meds start working on him soon, Erin ....... if he is feeling really rough you may be able to get the tablets down him without too much of a battle;)

43.5 is 110

Erin
22-04-2007, 11:17 AM
should he have kept him in?he was rushing as he was the only vet in today and had alot of people waiting, and he did say if there is any change in him today to ring and take him straight back down.

I think you must have got mixed up Erin.
There's no way his temp could be that high.
He'll be fine now he's got some medication. :)

Erin
22-04-2007, 11:22 AM
just gonna ring the vets,it was defo 40 something point 5 wont be a min

Erin
22-04-2007, 11:28 AM
sorry my mistake,41.5 is that still high?im rubbish when it come to things like this.
my excuse is just worked a night shift and not got to bed yet!

smudgley the injections he had were -
ketofen and synulox would they have been for his temp?

smudgley
22-04-2007, 11:34 AM
yes that's still very high 106.7, but the injections will bring it down.

I knew it couldn't be 110. as he'd be dead at that temp.

Synulox is a widely used, mild antibiotc
Ketofen is a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-infam drug)

Erin
22-04-2007, 11:36 AM
why would he have been given antibiotic injection and tablets?

smudgley
22-04-2007, 11:38 AM
The injection will get into his system quicker than tablets.
When does he start the tabs? tomorrow?

Erin
22-04-2007, 11:41 AM
yeah 3 a day from tomorrow,he has been given ketofen 5mg and noroclav 50mg.

i dont want to go to sleep incase he gets worse :(

smudgley
22-04-2007, 12:08 PM
Noroclav & Synulox is the same drug. ;)

the jab would get the antibiotic into him straight away, then the tablets will give him the antibiotics he needs to fight the infection.

Go to bed for a few hours & he'll be much brighter when you wake up.

I have to watch him now and if hes, sick or has any diarrhoea (sp) take him back to the vets, really hope he manages to keep it down bless him. This is all new to me,he's the first cat ive ever had so i havnt really got a clue,im just trusting my instincts at the moment mags and they proved me right this morning,i just hope my sis watches him closely tonight.

Erin - sorry to be reading that Jerry's so unwell. I would say err on the side of caution. Even if you think you might be over-reacting, if your gut instinct says to get him back down the vet then do so.

However, I hope the food intake is a positive step and that his medication starts to work pronto.

Hugs to you both.

Fran
24-04-2007, 12:41 PM
So glad Jerry is back to normal :D As long as he is weeing normally, I wouldn't worry too much at this point, keep an eye on him, I'm sure he'll 'delight' you sometime soon  :-D

Erin
24-04-2007, 12:45 PM
lol fran i though he would have gone by now especially after having the worming tablet yesterday,i think hes just saving it all up so it makes one big mess.......his way of getting me back for the vets, injections and nasty tablets .
hes weeing normally so im not too worried yet!

Erin
24-04-2007, 02:24 PM
he just been to the toilet and it was very runny :(
could this just be because he hasnt been for 3 days?

Fran
24-04-2007, 02:25 PM
More likely the worming tablet I would think. See how he goes Erin...

Erin
24-04-2007, 02:30 PM
yeah i didnt think of the worming tablet got in to much of a stress without thinking properly of what it could be!!!!

dandysmom
24-04-2007, 04:34 PM
Think Fran's nailed it. As long as he's weeing and eating OK and being his normal lively self I wouldn't be too concerned.
