Bernard was having problems last night trying to get up a furball. :(

Even though I have always had long haired or semi-longhaired cats I have never really had this problem before.

I gave him some Kittymalt, which he seemed to really like and licked off my finger.

Does anyone know if that works??? Or are there any other things I could try??

Is it better for him to bring it up???

:?

Here you go Charlie. I have used kittymalt in the past, I think that the kittymalt is to actually make it easier to pass a hairball through the digestive tract, not really sure how effective it is for this but it can be beneficial for mild cases of constipation. It is also said that kitty grass helps with the elimination of hairballs via the digestive tract becuase of it being a fibrous substance.

Thanks Elaine. I'll get some more cat grass and see if that helps too. :)

Sorry Charlie, only just caught up with this thread. How did you know he was struggling with a hairball?? It's not something I have major experience of always having kept shorthairs but have been wondering of late if Ria has been trying to part with a furball?

I think Catgrass will help and I add a little salmon oil to the their food several times a week too. Maybe a small meal of tuna in oil now and again will help?? Not heard of Kittymalt so I can't comment. Good luck and let us know how he goes x

I'm assuming that that's the same thing as Petromalt here...its flavored to appeal to cats and does aid in the elimination of furballs, as well as help with constipation. I've used it on and off for years: only one of my cats, Patches the tortie, a compulsive washer, had furball problems. I give/gave mine a lick of it about once a week just in case: they loved the flavor and would have eaten more if I'd let them!

Isn't that a laxative????? :?

Most if not all kitty malts contain laxative. Katalax is a little stronger than the petshop brands though.

Sorry for being dense then...........but is that the idea of it??? To send it out into the litter tray rather than up as a hairball???
