Hi, I have 3 British Shorthaired Kittens all around 6-7 months old. One of the boys, Charlie has occassional diarrhea. I have noticed that his faeces has fresh blood in it. He seems fine in himself, playing, eating and as cuddly as ever. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be???

Hi KittyKat, welcome to Catsey!:D

Sorry to hear about Charlie .......have you changed his diet recently as that can sometimes cause it?

He may have an inflamation of the colon which could lead to some mucus and blood streaks and possibly soft faeces.
You could try starving him for one day to give his colon a chance to clear out all the food in there and to give it a rest before he starts eating again. Then give him something light to eat such as boiled chicken or steamed white fish.

Hopefully it will be nothing too serious but if it continues I would definately get your vet to have a look at him ......... good luck and please let us know how you get on.

We would love to hear more about your lovely cats, if you would like to introduce yourself and your cats here in our Introductions Section ......... http://www.catsey.com/forumdisplay.php?f=54
we will all be able to give you a proper Welcome to Catsey ;)

Warm welcome to Catsey!!

Sorry to hear about Charlie's problems. Are the kittens up to date with worming? Mags has offered some very good advice in her post above. I do hope you manage to get this sorted out and I agree that if it continues then a vet visit may be worthwhile.

Look forward to chatting to you and hearing more about your lovely kitties :D

Thank you all so much for your advice. I have recently changed them from Pro Plan to Hills. I will do the 24 hour starvation thing and see if that helps.

I will definately write some more about myself in the intro section and get some photos of my babies!!!!!
